Lewis
I've been letting our flock reduce over the 5 years I've been at Uni not really replacing natural losses so we were down to 7 (not including the Pekin growers) and as they're not getting any younger we're getting fewer eggs and need a few more layers... I was out with my brother earlier in the week and passed a new supplier with a good reputation so popped in for a chat and came home with four new hybrids: Two White Stars, a Columbian Blacktail and a Black Star. The Black Star had a bubbly eye when we got home so I isolated her and the supplier agreed to replace straight away, luckily they're only 20mins away so we swapped her for another Blacktail; I've kept a close eye on the others and they all seem fine. One of the Blacktails laid her first egg yesterday

Purplemaniacs
Congratulations You will be getting lovely large white eggs soon. My white stars always amazed me they are/were slight birds but laid the biggest eggs of all the chooks. Just one out of the two left now but still laying super eggs. I think there is something magical about a pure white egg Chrissie
