Stubborn Mrs Chickens

Recommended Posts

I've had my girls about 3 months now and I'm still having to put 2 of them on their perch at night. I've tried all suggestions; raising the perch, filling the nesting boxes (that didn't work for me as I didn't get up early enough to take the stuff out). The perch isn't that high but it is definitely the highest point in the house. Will they ever get it????

It's a wooden style on legs with 2 nesting boxes at the back. The perch is 'stand alone' and I've put it near the nesting boxes. Maybe I should move it nearerer the middle of the house? It's only about 4/5 inches off the floor. Maybe I should make it higher?

The only thing I really worry about is that I've read it can discourage the other chickens from laying in the nesting boxes and only one of them is laying so when the other 2 (hopefully) start laying I don't want them tone put off from going in the nesting boxes. Do you know if this would effect them?

I wouldn't worry, they'll leave the nest once the sun is up & they have laid because they're greedy little beggars.... my bottom of the pecking order hen can wait all day for a nest box before she'll go in to lay. She's a very nervous girl & wont go in if any of the others are in there, so when I have a broody it's a nightmare!!

For the love of chickens we bear the cross
