AndyRoo
Does anyone watch the show? What do you think of the revelation that when the Doctor regenerates he is going to be a she?

AndyRoo
I'm so pleased someone has said that. I've been on Twitter watching people have absolute meltdowns over it! Apparently the thousands of years time-travelling alien who regenerates instead of dying bit doesn't bother them, but if you give the Doctor boobs you have crossed a line and the realism of the show is utterly destroyed. patsylabrador
I haven't watched it for decades and I checked who the new one will be but have absolutely no idea who she is. That said I don't see why it shouldn't be a woman. As long as it's done for fun and not some usual BBC pc point scoring.
chickencam
It fits with the way the story line had developed. It is not such a radical decision. She is a great actress. I quite enjoyed the latter part of the series, the stories were very political but also had a fair amount of touching and humorous elements which I thought worked quite well. I got quite bored with the Matt Smith episodes and think that Peter Capaldi made a great Doctor and I love the character of Missy I will miss her and their interaction. sjp
finding a new Dr was the easy bit (any ones got to be better than the last one) finding a good companion is the problem the last 2 female ones have been useless hopefully they'll keep Matt Lucas and expand the part to main sidekick it's a pity that the 3 actresses that could have pulled off the role have already had major roles in the program the one been the actress who played Missy
AndyRoo
I have to confess I've heard her name but I've only ever seen one thing she has been in so I can't really judge - although I am told she's great. I think it's going to give the show a big shake-up, it's been a bit stagnant in recent years. There has been sooo much anger towards her online which I feel is totally unfair; she'll either sink or swim, but it won't be because she's a woman it'll be down to the acting and writing. I just can't believe all the fuss it has caused! Give the Doctor boobs and suddenly all hell breaks loose!

They're doing a complete clean slate: writers, producers, actors etc. Anyone who doesn't cope well with change is in for a bit of a shock, I suspect! Sil-El
I was initially disappointed but when I think about it, the show is in need of a fresh look and maybe this is it. I've been watching Who on and off since the early 70's (I clearly remember Pertwee regenerating into Tom Baker) and it always takes time to get used to a new Doctor but if she's any good and the writing is any good then before long we'll all be wondering what all the fuss was about. If I'm honest, Who hasn't been working for me for ages, there hasn't been a "lump in the throat, hairs on the back of the neck, OMG" moment for a long time (the last 2 minutes of the last episode notwithstanding!) and I could rant for hours about what annoys me about it so having had the chance to sleep on it, I am cautiously optimistic that this could actually make me enjoy watching again. The Christmas episode is going to be great though, Capaldi and the First Doctor together, that's something to savour while digesting huge amounts of turkey, chocolate and wine

Sil-El
Yes he did and he spent too much time faffing around with Sherlock instead of concentrating on Who! And I love Sherlock by the way, but you can't Exec Produce 2 big things like that at the same time and keep the standards up! Bah!

patsylabrador
I'm assuming you've issued me with a bigot ticket. Bit like a white feather designed to shame me. I completely refute that I am bigoted. In fact I was chatting to my mates at the BNP and England First and they don't like it at all. My best bud Tommy Robinson says it's really spoilt his weekend. Sil-El
I thought the bingo card was quite funny - and I think I probably ticked all of the boxes initially and I'm still not 100% convinced it's a good idea! But I'm trying to put a brave face on it. And not even former Doctors agree apparently - Peter Davison and Colin Baker got into a bit of handbags over it the other day so those of us who have our reservations are in good company

He makes my blood run cold. At first I think I was probably against the idea; I never saw it as PC point-scoring or any of these other ridiculous buzzwords, but I suppose I saw it as 'tradition': the Doctor had always been a white man, so I didn't see any reason to change the format. Then I thought about it some more and figured that, the Doctor has had 9 different faces since I was a kid, so what was one more? I think it's only been in later years where they have really added elements of the actor to the role; I.E. reference to northern and Scottish accents etc. - in subtle ways, so the Doctor has always really just been written as the Doctor. I could be wrong, but I'm not really expecting that to change, although I am sure there will be at least a few gags about the change. Then Michelle Gomez came along and played the part of the Master (IMHO) so well that she became my favourite version of the character of all - and then I just stopped caring whether the Doctor changed gender or race. I thought about it logically: the Doctor is a time-travelling alien who regenerates instead of dying and sometimes ages backwards... it's Science-Fiction... fantasy... so why worry; if I took it at face value then the whole thing would just be complete rubbish. I've actually never seen this new woman in anything, so I've no preconceived ideas of what she might be like anyway - hopefully they give her good writing and she'll be able to run with it... Sil-El
I was only saying to hubby the other day that we should start using names of Who companions for our ladies, that or Bond girls I never saw much of Colin Baker as Who so I can't really judge him, but I have met him and he's a very nice man. My fave would have to be Tom Baker though, the quintessential Doctor IMHO.
