AndyRoo
Yes, we were thinking of naming conventions for the days when we have to start replacing our girls, but I'm not sure what to go for. We've had a whole bunch of ideas from Who to Game of Thrones. If my partner gets his way I am going to end up with chickens called Sansa, Cersei, and Daenerys. soapdragon
All fine until you have to take them to the vets; I realised this when I took the two Chinese hamsters a few weeks ago and the vet called through the reception for Wun Tun and Hoi Sin Franklin. Seemed perfectly sensible when we first got them However, returning to thread........if the Dr is regenerating why not come back as a female? I am, quite honestly, surprised that this hasn't happened before! For something that is supposed to be fantasy there are some in the media that seem to be taking it very seriously

Seemed perfectly sensible when we first got them I wanted to call Barney 'Chairman Meow' but Rich banned it. However, returning to thread........if the Dr is regenerating why not come back as a female? I am, quite honestly, surprised that this hasn't happened before! For something that is supposed to be fantasy there are some in the media that seem to be taking it very seriously I think it's probably because it's just 'tradition'. I've noticed people making the argument "Should we have a female James Bond? Or how about a male Miss Marple?" Well, that's a bit different - they're human characters, not time-travelling aliens. I think there's a certain group of people who feel threatened whenever a heterosexual white (usually male) person isn't involved, and to them as soon as someone from a minority becomes involved in any kind of major role they automatically blame it on "PC point-scoring loony leftie snowflake remoaner social justice warriors". But maybe I see things a bit differently as I come from a minority myself... I think it's great the Doctor is going to be female, it's probably the biggest shake-up since they first decided to make him alien and have him regenerate in the first place! It'll be interesting to see how the dynamic of the show changes.

soapdragon
How I wish I had realised that Daleks don't do stairs! They (and Cybermen) were my night terrors as a child and if I'd only understood that there was no way they'd make it upstairs to my bedroom I'd have got a lot more sleep (and so would poor mother!) Sil-El
They do stairs these days - they can fly and everything! There's no escape! Personally I am a bit peeved with the way the Cybermen are misused in new Who. In the old days your average Cyberman had a bit of guile, a bit of cunning and even a bit of panache. These days all they do is stomp about in formation and then take to the skies. Bring back proper Cybermen that's what I say!

AndyRoo
Yep - Daleks have been able to do stairs since the late 80s. And I agree: Cybermen should be menacing and cunning, these days they're just a kind of robotic army that occasionally shows up and gets their bums kicked. Willow
I just got bored during the Matt Smith run, I liked him just felt that had been the right time to have introduced a female doctor it would have brought a bit of change. I will start rewatching and just wondering if I ought to catch up first Couldn't get my head around Peter Davidsons comments about it being so sad boys didn't have a male doctor what about the nearly fifty years girls haven't had a female one Still remember watching Dr Who movie with Daleks at the council run play scheme as a child. It was so exciting

I didn't realise you could (apparently) only be a role model for someone of the same gender!
