mullethunter
I currently have 4 bantams - 2 wyandottes, a Pekingese and an araucana who live in a Cube with 2m run attached to a 3m x 2m lo-rise WIR which is covered on the top and two sides by a clear tarpaulin. I let them out to free range in the garden when I’m home - their area has a bit of lawn and a big, deep, shrubby border. The weather here has been particularly awful this winter - not overly cold but almost constantly wet and very windy. My slight concern is the amount of time they’re spending in the Cube. They get up just after 8 in the morning, have some water and pellets, then after a few minutes go back into he Cube where they spend most of the rest of he day. Even on days when they’re allowed out they spend a lot of time in there. Is this unusual? They certainly never did it when they were living in the Eglu Go and in fact they didn’t do it anywhere near as much last winter when they were shut in for bird flu. Should I be worried or just wait and see what happens when the weather improves?
Beantree
Wet and windy here as well; two things chickens hate and ours are also in the coops most of the time Mullethunter. Poos are normal and they are all eating so I don't think there is cause for concern.
Luvachicken
Mine were all doing that before Christmas Mullet. No idea why. First of all I thought it was because the younger Pekins were chasing the older Pekins and they were escaping up into the cube - but then they would all go up there When I checked on them, I would find them all having some kind of Mother's meeting in there and not up to much at all. I have turfed them out quite a few times but they would all just have a little potter, a bit to eat and drink and then go back again. Quite frankly though, with the kind of weather we have had, especially today, I would rather be tucked up somewhere warm and cosy too. mullethunter
Hmm - reassuring to know it’s not just my bunch then. Like yours Beantree they all seem really healthy - much more so than when they’re laying actually- so I guess no cause for concern.
Purplemaniacs
My two bantams have a large WIR but they spend a great deal of time in their eglu. They should really be enjoying the space as when I get some more chooks at the end of March they will be restricted to half of the run again. Grandmashazzie
Yes now you mention it,my lot seem to like being in more too.I suppose it’s easier to clean out trays than poo pick in the run.
The Dogmother
Could just be the weather - mine tend to be in the cubes more when it is darker or snowing.

The Dogmother
Previous flocks liked the snow, but not this lot!
Beantree
Lovely warm day yesterday with plenty of sun and a very light breeze. None of our chickens were in the coops for a change, so it must just be the weather Mullethunter.
