Patricia W
Don’t let it put you off chickens though. You did all you could for her.
Natspringy
Thanks guys. No it definitely won't, absolutely love my girls; chickens make the coolest pets. And thank you. Nice of you to say. We tried very very hard to keep her going. Very sad. But sadly one of those things. Thanks to everyone on here, you guys were so helpful. Natspringy
Another chicken appears to have gone broody. This was how it started with the one we lost...... vet thinks she went broody from time in nest box resting. So this broody chicken has alarmed me. She seems healthy apart from some brooding today (and one hot day last week). Don't know if this is a coincidence or start of illness and if there's anything that can/should be done. Such a horrible illness that I can't help but feel very anxious.
GrannyTrish
When one of mine went broody a few weeks ago I kept her out of the nest box as much as I could. She squawked and tried to peck me when I moved her so I wore gloves, but it worked. I really hope that yours isn't poorly but if it seems like she is, take her to your vet asap. Natspringy
Thank you. Yes I've been taking her out. Just not sure if it's the start of illness or just a coincidence. Am keeping a close eye on her today. She generally seems okay so fingers crossed. Thank you.
Luvachicken
Sometimes one of mine has a try at being broody but it only lasts for a day and is then back to normal. On Wednesday though, one of my chicks from last year has had a successful go and is now in the broody cage and will come out tomorrow. A small dog crate makes an ideal broody sin bin and not too expensive either.
Natspringy
Thank you. She's still going in the nest box but is running around the garden when out so think she's okay.... Very hard to tell as our last seemed fine then suddenly wasn't at all. Horrible mareks. Atm she seems more with it and active than the other did and more willing to be out so I'm hoping just broody. We weren't here today to take her out but yesterday I just kept removing her and she gave up and joined the rest. Hoping she's okay. Thanks guys.
Natspringy
Fingers crossed she's seeming very healthy still (think Shellington had gone down hill by now) and after free ranging all day yesterday much less broody today - she's yet to go in the nestbox - I did shut it up most of yesterday after the others had laid. So think she's okay! thanks all for help and support x
GrannyTrish
Great to hear she's free-ranging and less broody.
