Tina C
Layla went back today (Year 2) and I am missing her! But what's this about 7 weeks next year - please no, its too long for us working parents.... Love the hols but its hard to be a full-time mum and keep on working - I refuse to put her in daycare as I had a bad experience with nurseries. ubereglu
Well I went in to help out with the annual Year 7 Super learning day, (it's basically where you play team-building activities with the children). Most of the kids were lovely, but some of them answered back when I had to tell them that they should do something again and said that that was breaking the rules, one of them goes: 'No, I made this game up, I don't have to do it again.' It was just so annoying...I don't think they'd actually given a thought to us, (Peer tutors) and that we were freely giving up our time as technically I don't go back till tomorrow. On the way to help out I was also chased by a dog, it started following me and bounding in front of me and then ended up on the school site and in the building...I'm not the best fan of dogs most of the time-especially not that one as it didn't appear to have anyone looking after it and I wasn't quite sure what it was going to do next. Trish
My boys went back today, jsut to pick up timetables. I came in from work and it was like the Marie Celeste, they we're all upstairs playing a game together 6 weeks of moody teenagers arguing and today they decide to ba all nicey nicey
Cate in NZ
Seb went in for all of 5 mins today, with me in tow, for timetables, target setting and a bit of a chat with the teacher. Back tomorrow for real, and he's into year 11, so hopefully this is the point at which he suddenly realises that this year is the culmination of his 12 year school career to date..................... but so far he's showing no sign at all of recognising that a little bit of effort might be nice Immie's not back until Thursday, so she's gloating . Year 10 for her, but she's excited, got all her first choice options and she's looking forward to it 7 weeks school holiday next year . Don't tell my children that, basically they don't get a summer holiday next year............. continuous schooling (except for end of terms and half terms) until late December 08. Poor things

Cate in NZ
I've noticed on Seb's school term dates that they've changed the Easter holidays . In 2008, for the first time in my experience he's at school over Easter, gets Good Friday and Easter Monday off, of course, but then breaks up a week later for 2 weeks holiday. He's delighted, he figures that he gets 2 extra days off out of it, since the Bank Holidays are usually just part of the holidays and now they're extra. I had heard talk of mobile Easter holidays when we move to the much talked about 4 term system, but he's still on the normal 3 term regime. Is this just a new change local to us, or is it happening elsewhere?
Martin B
No idea, what date is Easter and I will have a look.
Guest
In Essex we have a fixed Easter holiday so sometims Easter itself falls outside of it Hate to disappoint your kids but whenever the holidays fall they get the same number of days in school each year, 190 for kids 195 for staff

We have the same Kate - a bit annoying for me because my folks always take Rosie and I away over the easter hols, and I can usually count on the bank holidays to reduce the number of holiday days I need to book off work (I only get 20 per year). Although this means that we get an 'extra' break for the actual easter weekend, it still whittles away at my holiday allowance.
theherd123
Well i have just finished my first days teaching and now i feel i have not had a holiday at all! Oh the joys of teenagers!
Lesley
At least your work doesn't just pile up while you are away though? - and after just one hourback at work, you don't feel any benefit from the two weeks holiday you've just taken I'm running.................. rachel19
Well after months of looking for a part time job I finally get one without looking for when I'm back at uni! One of the student advisors randomly phoned me up today asking if i'd be a student mentor for the freshers joining the biological sciences dept as I'd done well this year! Not only will this look great for me but I get paid a decent amount for doing it! Now, must try and come up with someting encouraging to tell them - not revise the morning of the exam like I do or hand in essays before reading them through
Rona
Well done Rachel. You have obviously done well in the past to be offered the job and that is just the sort of thing future employers will want to see on your CV.

rachel19
Dont worry Martin - once you get to a levels and uni you'll be eternally grateful for coursework as it means exams dont seem quite so hideous!
ubereglu
I've just spent the last hour doing coursework, 2 days in. I haven't had to do any coursework yet, still need to sort out my art homework though.
Martin B
It'll come. Jus to prove how stupid they are they all go... "I thought I'd do you a favour and make us crack on with our coursework now, so that you don't have any to do for my subject when you get hit with it by all the other subjects" They all say this, so it makes no difference to doing it later on! I've got a deadline of Next Friday! Talk about short notice!
Chicken Licken
I have now taught 3 school days, all of the kids I teach seem to be lunatics and I am now seriously considering pulling the duvet over my head in the morning and making the world go away. I blame the fire alarm practice and having to properly run to catch up with one student as she stropped off the school site.....Aaaaagh. At least it is friday tomorrow and then my last ever OU tutorial - I have just one more essay to do before I finish my MEd.
The Dogmother
Good luck with it Abi You should've brought that girl down with a rugby tackle then claimed it was for her own good - she wouldnt do it again. I'd never make a teacher.
ubereglu
I'd never make a teacher either...I know just how horrible some kids can be.
