lerryn
1 of my girls has been laying for 10 days & I was impatiently waiting for my other one to start. Well when i checked on them today (they freerange for about 10 hrs a day!) i couldnt find one. Eventually found her in some ferns. Sh ehad made a chicken shaped hole & there were 6 eggs in there! Any advice?
Christian
Couldn't you keep them in the run for the morning until they have all laid? That way you won't have to play 'find the eggs'! Although it does sound like fun!
Snowy
'Fraid that's your best option - once they've re-learned where to lay, you can let them out again and they should keep using the eglu.
arowland17
saying that, ours kept laying in the garden at first, and since we've been back at work they are in the run during the day so learnt to lay in the nest box, but yesterday we let them out before they had laid since the sun was out for a rare occasion and first Nugget laid a whopper in the middle of the lawn like she hadn't even noticed it, then turned round and almost pecked it as if to say 'what is that doing in the middle of the lawn' - we quickly grabbed it as she went for it again, then a bit later Buttercup was making such a racket and settled herself down in the second shefl up in a little cupboard we have outside, in amongst a carrier bag and a mug and other bits of junk put in there - the racket they were both making was awful so we put them both back in the run and she calmed down and laid in the nest!! absolutely hopeless pair they are, after over a month of daily laying in the nest box, they are let out and totally forget what to do!!!!
