Cinnamon
I came here to post the same topic Egluntine Very sad - she was a real pioneer of all things green & natural. I love The Body Shop & have used it since I was old enough to get pocket money. A tragic end to an inspirational life.

Cinnamon
I CANT BELIEVE IT!!!!!! I DIDNT EVEN KNOW SHE WAS THAT ILL!!! She wasn't. It was a very sudden brain haemorrhage, which can hit anyone at any time I don't think it was linked to her HepC Edited September 11, 2007 by Guest
buffie
Was going to post early as heard it last night. I was so influenced by her and when I first recovered from anorexia my dad and I looked into opening a franchise of 'body and face place', it couldn't compare to Body Shop so we let it go. Oddly enough I went into B S yesterday and bought 2 items, not been in for years. She had her reasons for selling to L'oreal and I believe it is still run with the same ethos. She was remarkable BBx
Lesley
She was very inspirational - especially in the earlier days. I didn't like what was happening in the latter years though, or their policy on animal testing, and haven't bought from BS for some time now. Very sad to see the death of someone who still has so much to give, and at such a young age
susiepoos
Such terribly sad news - what an inspirational woman she was both ethically and business wise. I loved to listen and read about her in interviews as she was so full of enthusiasm. It is such a shame as she was so young and had so much more to give. redfrock
I have just sworn out loud in shock I had no idea - I just opened the post to see what it was about. IT really is sad news indeed. I find it unnerving hearing about the deaths of so many people that I have been aware of all my life.
moochoo
Such sad news. She will be sorely missed. She was certainly a pioneer of cruelty free, recycling and natural products - well ahead of her time. I hope Body Shop continues to promote her ethics. Popcorn
It's so sad isn't it. I read it last night on the Beeb News website. She was a great lady. A year or so ago she gave away half of her fortune to charity. I did wonder if this was in preparation for her passing away, but it was sudden and she couldn't have known. Rhapsody
I am shocked and saddened too- she made a lot of people look at the products they used in a totally different way, pioneered fairtrade, cruelty-free, and reusing of packaging. An inspiration a sucessful busineswoman, she was a proper role model for young women.
Tina C
I remember when the second shop opened in Birmingham. It was so to have Body Shop products She was amazing - ahead of her time and a good businesswoman too.
Cinnamon
She certainly was a pioneer when it came to recyling - I remember takingmy old bottles down to be refilled when I was very young indeed

superjules
I remember going to the first body shop in Covent garden with my mum when I was small. It was such an unsual ethos at the time. She really seemed to be a true eco-warrior at a time when it wasn't trendy to be so. I remember her on "da Ali G show" saying how his "special" face cream that he made fresh every day for m'julie WAS actually good for the skin. DH reminds me of that regularly!!! Lesley
I've split the chat about animal testing into a topic of its own to save clogging up this thread. Please post any comments about testing in the other thread.
