Archietilly
Where is the best place to store fresh eggs? At room temperature, or on a middle shelf in the fridge?
mullethunter
I store mine in an egg crock on the worktop. So at room temperature. I use them for at least a month and I’ve never yet had one that’s gone off.
The Dogmother
Only shop bought eggs need to go int eh fridge - they have been washed, so have lost some of the protective bloom which a 'natural' egg has.
Cat tails
Dutch shop bought eggs are not washed and still need to be refrigerated. 😉 At least according to our food safety board people.
Patricia W
I don’t refrigerate mine, or wash them. They mostly stay clean because the run is covered and dry, and I use aubiouse in the next box. I’d only wash a dirty egg when using.

Patricia W
Mind you, I’d welcome ANY egg, dirty or not at the moment. I have a bunch of elderly free loaders these days!
Beantree
Eggs are sold in the shops at room temperature and have a life of a month. This is because they are not washed, in accordance with EU regulations and so retain the sealing 'bloom'. We happen to keep ours in the fridge where they won't get knocked over. In America eggs are washed and as a result must be stored in the fridge and consumed within 3 days (I think). So if you do need to wash a dirty egg, store it in the fridge and use it quickly. Beantree
So the Americans wash their eggs and then re-seal them to keep the shelf life of unwashed eggs, so if we wash eggs and don't re-seal them that's probably where I got the 3 days from?
