hen house paper

Recommended Posts

I do. I tear it into smaller than A4 pieces before I shred it to stop the hens getting it wrapped aroud their ankles when they come out of the nesting box. I bought my shredder especially for my hens! My confidential paper used to go to my parents house to be burned on their coal fire.

Never used anything else! We have cross cut shredders so no worries about it wrapping around a chooks foot.

I tell the kids I teach that I recycle my paper twice, once as bedding/poo tray liner for the chooks and then again as compost!

My GNR GNR were a touch perturbed when I first swiched them from the straw their previous owners gave them, to shredded paper, but I don't like the smell of straw and it makes me happy to think I am reusing something.

Plus it's free!! :D

Yes.. the free bit is what I like :D

 my (admittedly very cheap) shredder gave up the ghost last week. I saw a bargain one (ok, you are getting the theme now!) in the Post Office last night, lugged it home on the Tube, only to find that it doesn't work.

It will be going back on Monday - but can anyone recommend a make of cross-cut shredder? I don't want to spend more than about £25. I definitely want a cross-cut for the reason Penguinmad mentioned - don't want long strands that could get wrapped round chicken-legs.

I agree, I used to just tear stuff up and put it in the cat-litter tray on the basis that "Ooops, word censored!"ody would want to try and put it back together again after that!

Thanks for the link Christian, I may try and pop out later to Staples, I have a pile of shredding stuff and it's growing daily. Since having my credit cards stolen a few years ago, I don't take any chances.
