Sheilaz
Hi, announcing that there is now a new topic in "All Things Nice" with Kaz's weight watching meal plans. So, do take a peek there if you've been following them. How's everyone doing? It's that difficult time of year. I'm sure the longer winter nights tell our bodies to store reserves to see us through, so it's harder than the summer for keeping balanced. I've just curled up with a packet of choc covered brazil nuts but I deserved them & enjoyed them, and amazingly it'll just be the one packet! So, anyone else need encouragement, congratulations or support?
kazaddress
I finally built up the courage to signup for the gym today. I kept putting it off because I cant really afford £43 a month.. however I cant really afford not to, as I just can not exercise anywhere other then a gym, as I just don’t have the confidence to run around the roads on my own, especially in the dark. My hamstring and knee were just getting weaker and weaker. So today I did a gentile 1km jog, a 1.5km walk on he treadmill, a good 30min session on the stepper, and about an hour of stretching / warm up. It was really frustrating being careful with the knee reconstruction, however I have the willpower to get back to running 10km a day I am on a weeks free trial at the sports centre this week, and have signed myself up to a class every day I must admit being able to hop in the sauna / steam / Jacuzzi will be good motivation Lost 2.5lbs this week.. and I know because I’m starting to exercise again.. I hope to get to my goal weight by Christmas I have not felt this motivated for a very long time Its amazing the difference a week makes. I feel like a completely different person this week (I get a bit of S.A.D. in the winter months, so the endorphins from exercising has given me a huge boost). *beams*
AnnieP
I have started a Pilates course and have just got a personal trainer who comes to the house once a week to put me through my paces... good job its only once a week, as I need the intervening 6 days to recover! I am hoping there will soon be some effects. I don't do diets. They don't work for me, so extra exercise is the only option, and I have been prevarocating for some time, as I loathe exercise, but now I've started, its not so bad.... off for a nice radox bath now
Lesley
I fell by the wayside this year - after weighing myself weekly for the first 3 months when we moved here, I stopped because my weight had stayed the same. I had hoped that the extra walking would result in some weight loss, but I could cope with maintaining. Last week, after cursing M&S bra sizing (they're getting smaller all the time you know ) I got back on the scales and have put on 4lbs. Being too tired to think properly about what I was eating and thinking I was doing enough excersize to counteract the chocolate is not a good combination. I doubt I will find the willpower between now and New Year - especially with a birthday in between so I'm just going to be careful until then and not put on any more. Any weight loss during that time will be a bonus.
Mel (& Paul)
I have done really well - have lost 161bs in the last 2 months - only one more stone to go! I still have a glass of wine in the evening and the odd square (not bar!!) of chocolate as a treat, but have cut out the "naughties" and picking between meals and, of course, the dreaded cakes / biscuits / donuts that seem to be in the office all the time! I have to say I feel miles better - especially when I am riding or dancing! Christmas is going to be a hard time - but there's no need to beat ourselves up about it - we can only do what we do and we still need to love ourselves for who we are not what size we are
Sheilaz
Kaz, I'm so pleased that you're beaming this week, that's great news. I don't think that your exercise regime would suit most people though, I feel exhausted just reading it. But yes, doing some exercise regularly, just walking instead of driving, does help make you feel alive. That's a healthy option! Keep smiling, Kaz! Lesley, there's always next year! 4lb isn't much, I'd see that as maintaining. You've had enough else to focus on this year, and if you "fell by the wayside" then I don't think you've done badly at all. I noticed yesterday that it was you that started this thread. I'd forgotten that, and it's interesting reading some of the early posts. So, you've helped & supported a lot of other people this year, and we'll all be here for you if you relaunch your own goals in the spring. Annie, that sounds such a good idea, I hope that it does work out for you. All that prevarocating can be unhealthy, but pilates and a weekly, regular personal training sounds most excellent! Mel!!!!!!!!! I'm so impressed, I had no idea what was going on in deepest, darkest Dorset. Well done you! I had to re read your post, it's inspirational. I love your style & approach Mel. Enjoy yourself, enjoy food, but recognise the weakest areas. I know that I start off the day well, but by afternoon/evening, I'll just eat for the sake of it, including finshing everyone elses. I need to recognise the pattern of starting on unhealthy options when I'm tired or worried. Much better to tackle something else to replace those feelings at a low point in the day. Well, I weigh 2 and 3/4 stone more than I did pre children, mostly spreading hips & tum, legs & feet! Given that I was quite slight then, I think to go down 2 stone would be ideal weight now, or maybe 1 and a half if that felt right. Until I bumped up this topic and typed that, I had no idea. I'd forgotten to think about it. Now that I have, I'm going to start taking healthy options again, and see what happens. I won't weigh myself more than monthly though, I'll enjoy food, and just replace the "I need to raid the cupboards because I'm fed up" with more positive things! Anyone else? Mel (& Paul)
Good for you Sheila! Yup, I think a lot of difficulties stem from our attitude to food - I have real trouble leaving food on a plate (I blame my parents for their "dont get down from the table until you have finished"!) and if I am bored or stressed I tend to head towards the cupboard! I wanted to lose weight so the poor horses didnt groan as I got on them and to feel better in myself - not to be stick thin - and when I do particularly well I "treat" myself - so my "prize" for getting under 11 stone and sticking to it were some jibbitz for my crocs! I have difficulty with exercise (partly because I am overweight and partly because things like jogging and gym work bore me) - but I do little things like walking up the stairs at the office rather than taking the lift. Parking further away in the car park at the supermarket and so on - every little bit helps! My biggest dilema - if I get down to my target weight what shall my "treat" be - I do need new clothes (my trousers are now too "long" as there isnt a wobbly belly to keep them up) - but I REALY want more chickens..........hey I'll go for the chickens
The Dogmother
Not a difficult choice eh Mel? More chickens will always win What dance are you doing?
Mel (& Paul)
Mo'Jive - modern jive. The hardest thing is that you are meant to let the man lead and just go with the flow. My instructor said that the man is in charge (make the most of it I grumble darkly............)
The Dogmother
I have problems with that when I'm dancing - predictably, I always want to lead Well, I don't have problems with it - the men do though Can't wait to see you again Mel - you sound so happy and healthier too. Just don't get carried away (no chance of that I know) - no-one loves a food-obsessed stick insect
Mel (& Paul)
no chance of stick insectedness for me - I love my wine and chocolate and cakes and wine and chocolate and cheese and wine and chocolate and crisps and wine and chocolate and peanuts and wine and chocolate and biscuits and wine and chocolate......... well, you get the picture I do feel masses better - not just because I have lost weight but I have proved that I do actually have sticking power to do so!!
