buffie
Anyone who wants to join me getting fitter? I plan to walk my way into 40 and increase my fitness by adding more walking to my day. I am off to get some new AAA batteries for my pedometer and then will do a trial day to see how many steps I actually do. After that I will add more steps to my day gradually a walk here using steps not lifts. Popping to post office on foot not car etc. Park further from shops and so on...It's cheap and easy and soon I will be at 10,000 steps a day. Anyone interested in doing this with me for support let me know. We can encourage each other and it is fun to have a goal and someone doing it with you. If I get any interest can this be a sticky with the healthy options one please. So it's cheaper than a fitness trainer or gym, no equipment but a pedometer needed. Any increase in steps from what you do now is doing you good! walk into 2006! BBx

Guest
I'm with you, Buffie! Caitlin starts nursery tomorrow, and I had intended on swimming my way to fitness while she was occupied there! Unfortunately the surprise discovery of the bean has meant that money is tight as we save up for new car (people carrier yeugh!), and a loft conversion (builders double yeugh!), so walking is about all I can afford! Will go for a walk tomorrow and get new batteries for my old pedometer!

Lesley
I bought one last year just to see how I was progressing with learning to walk again - still not mobile enough to manage 10,000 a day but i might join in with my own limit?
Mrs Frugal
I only manage about 7000 which is pretty pathetic . I can't join you in body Buffie but I'll join you all in spirit and once it's warmed up a bit, I'll be swimming loads of lengths instead . Love you to join us Lesley, just do your own thing at your pace and NO ONE HAS TO DECLARE FIGURES we can just say it's improving or if we feel stuck. It's motivation we need eh! Popcorn
Lesley, Kate and I can be partnered together - like the three legged race! I think btween us we might hit 10,000 a day, and i'm with Kate on the swimming bit too. I do walk 20 minutes to work and 20 minutes back three times a week, but that's becoming a bit of a struggle as I'm getting fatter..... Sheilaz
Great idea Buffie, I'd like to find a good level for me on that, and join in. Does anyone know a cheap place for pedometers. I don't have one, & last year missed the freebie from Special K...another thing I didn't quite get around to!

Guest
Sheila, my pedometer is made by HiGear and I bought it in Argos. It might have been £7.99. It counts your steps and miles/kilometres, calories burnt and the time spent walking. I have used it every day for a long time and really like it. Or, I think I have a freebie Flora pedometer which I could bring on Saturday if you'd like it.
Sheilaz
Or, I think I have a freebie Flora pedometer which I could bring on Saturday if you'd like it. Oooh, yes please, I've never used one before & I know I'll be fascinated. Picture the scene at Kew...."So, which one is Sheila?" "Oh, the mad one racing around the gardens".... More likely scenario...."She's the one off to get a cup of tea!"

Cate in NZ
Good idea Buffie, I did have a free Kelloggs one last year, but couldn't work out how to use it . buffie
Glad you're with us kateA, we're like an online ramblers! We're just popping out with daisie for a walk and having an early night (reading ) No wine tonight and reading, what's wrong with us!! Guest
we're like online ramblers! I just love that image! Could we put somewhere a running total? I'm thinking we could add up how many steps we jointly take each week and challenge ourselves to do more the next week, each week. It would be fun to contribute however few steps we manage to take! Or we could have a virtual ramble together along the length of the Pennine Way, or somewhere (perhaps John O'Groats to Land's End?!). Each week we could track where we'd got to and how much further we had to go! I haven't a clue how to make it work though! Any ideas anyone? Lesley
It's good to exercise before a meal also short fast as you can steps are great and head up! Use arms too! BBx If I can walk and get home without falling over I'm doing well Also - because the pedometer doesn't count the first 6 steps until you've gone past that many steps*, it didn't count lots of my steps because the kitchen is small. If I take 2 or 3 steps and then back again, none of them count (* the pedometer only counts the first 6 steps if you do more than 6 steps at one time. If you get up, walk 5 steps, stop, walk another 5 steps, stop, then walk 10 steps, the pedometer will only count 10 steps. If you walk 7 steps, stop, then start again, it will count 7 steps - Clear as mud now?)
