bracken
Hi there.....going to my first local produce market tomorrow! Taking my mum to get her out of the house for a hour or so. I cant wait. If home produced eggs taste better than supermarket ones then i cant wait to try some more local tasty produce? Does everyone else go to these markets? If so,do you find a difference in the tastes of these products?
Lesley
We go to the Farmers Market twice a month in Stratford and a local Farm Shop at least once a week. It's not always taste but we're happier with our food being local and having travelled far less 'food miles' and also supporting our local community. The better taste and freshness is a bonus Have a lovely time!
bracken
I think we will enjoy it? Just would like to come back with fresh locally grown produce(knowing me it will be pies and cakes ) Will have to resist my sweet tooth urges and be healthy in my thinking
chocchick
We're guilty of the farm shop pies and cakes.
bracken
Yeah, but i bet they taste a lot nicer than the supermarket rubbish?
chocchick
The chocolate cake ingredients were eggs, flour, sugar, chocolate and cocoa (if I haven't missed any). It was GORGEOUS. No E numbers or stabilisers or unidentifiable ingredients. Pies had meat from the farm, and were very tasty, but the nice pastry did have unhealthy fat in it. Mental note, moderation, keep to moderation. Bought two pheasant breasts for £2! Bargain I like your avatar by the way.
bracken
Why thankyou (avatar) Moderation???? Whats that? I am here for a good time.....not along time
chocchick
To me a balanced diet definately includes cake, chocolate, dessert and nice food. Just need to adjust the proportions a bit so includes more of other food groups! Maybe moderation is eating one or two slices rather than scoffing the lot?! There are so many varieties of nice desserts (and other food) out there, I couldn't imagine not being able to eat them.
bracken
God/dess help me if i ever get cholesterol. I dont think i could ever do the diet thing. Think the withdrawal symptoms would finish me off
chocchick
Diets usually fail anyway. Best to just try and improve your existing diet. Depends on your metabolism and how much you exercise as well. Have you been to the market yet?
bracken
Anyway, went to market this morning. Not as many stalls as i hoped to see,but still spent some money! I told you i couldnt resist the pies,so i got a deep beef in guiness and an autumn fruit in mulled wine pie.......deeeeelicious I bought some honey for my face when i'm in the bath and some beetroot chutney........yummy. I was quite surprised to see a waterbuffalo stand and an ostrich burger stand!!!!
ali-s
I buy Ostrich from the farmers market in Elgin. The Ostrich steaks are delcious. I told my children the burgers were beef and they couldn't tell the difference. Told them they were Ostrich after they had eaten them
chocchick
Did their faces look like ? Bracken, do you just put honey straight on your face, or is it some kind of special face mask?
myles
We buy water buffalo burgers at our farmers market they’re delicious. Some time ago we bought an ostrich egg. I paid £6 if think, we blew the egg and still have it as an ornament, I can't remember how many eggs it was the equivalent to ( a lot ), it was a very rich egg. bracken
Did their faces look like ? Bracken, do you just put honey straight on your face, or is it some kind of special face mask? Straight onto my face out of the jar! Its anti bacterial, antiseptic and very moisturising! Only thing is that i put it on while in the bath......the only problem being that when it warms up it tends to slide down your face......and i'm not too keen on the taste I also find that if you tend to suffer from teenage spots which i do (being 40 ) it can make them worse before they get better! Bit like a healing crisis!
chocchick
Never heard of that before. Maybe when my little-used clay mask runs out. Is it thick or runny honey?
bracken
I use the heather honey because it is supposed to be one of the thickest. I did like to use the raw unpasteurised stuff before the honey scare a couple of years ago,but you can only buy it pasteurised now, unfortunately.
