Just bene down to defrost their water and would lovel to make them something warm. Do you mash up pellets? What with etc etc, you think I'd know by now.... Cinnamon
I made mine some bog standard porridge from porridge oats & hot water yesterday - got the recipe from the side of the oat box! In fact I made far to much,so popped some in the fridge which I will warm through later for them. I added a few raisins too, & they really loved it

newlaidegg
I notice that some people give their hens left over cereal, is milk ok for hens? How about other dairy products such as cheese?
Laura & CTB
Not sure about milk - mine dont get it but they do like a sprinkling of grated cheese on their salad now and again
Carol U
Mine love milk - I use half milk and half water with whichever cereal they're having. They seem to like any dairy stuff, although cream cheese is their favourite!

Janty
I got my recipe from the perfect pekins website and I have adapted it slightly to suit my girls. I use layers mash, a glug of cod liver oil, a teaspoon of marmite (urgh!) dissolved in boiling water, quarter pint of milk and a couple of teaspoons of chicken spice. In these dark and horrid times of being confined to their run I also throw in a handful of sultanas at the hot marmite stage. This plumps them up nicely and the girls love it. Helly Welly
Is Weetabix okay to use? None of us like porrige but Abi has weetabix so i could make this with warm water instead of milk and add some raisins.

KateP
My girls' favourite is weetabix mashed up with warm water. They also love porridge oats soaked in warm water - I sometimes throw in some pumpkin seeds too (which are sitting in the cupboard untouched after I decided to be more 'healthy' a couple of months ago). chocolatedog
I see what you mean about them loving porridge!!! Mine were a bit suspicious of the bowl at first but then when I dipped my finger in the porridge they nearly took my finger off!!!! The only question I've got is, how much should you give them? I just made up a very small amount to see if they took to it or not. Would you give them a whole Oatso Simple packet (ie a human cereal bowl) between 3, or would you make far less? I used what was left at the bottom of a porridge sachet (I'd used the rest in some recipe or other way back) - so more of a taster really....... Pepper got nice and messy - but it was quite touching how gentle Ginger was when pecking porridge bits off her feathers... Oh, and another question - when they "clean" each other, does it encourage feather eating? Or does it never lead to those kinds of problems? Do they stay messy if they don't clean each other? Do they need a bath at all after eating porridge? Is there any way you can avoid them getting messy? (Sorry about all these questions!!!
