Clash City Rocker
Went to see Mika @ B'ham Academy with the"Brat" last night (where did it all go wrong?)!!! What a rip-off. Mika's set lasted for just over an hour. Included in the set:- the same song twice, a cover of an Eurythmics song (Missionary Man) and an awful version of "the Teddy Bears Picnic" including costumes. The gig would have been even shorter without every "3 minute pop song" being extended to 5 minutes with the obligatory "lets see those arms in the air" or "singalong Birmingham". Unimaganitive, Tedious Pap!!!! Has anyone else noticed that since july's smoking ban (a good thing) that standing gigs now all stink of B.O. Cinnamon
What a shame. I would have thought Mika would have put on a good show & I certainly would have taken my girls if he played local to me. I hate it when 'pop' acts are so obviously just going through the motions, rather than giving it their all
Egluntyne
Has anyone else noticed that since july's smoking ban (a good thing) that standing gigs now all stink of B.O. At least it won't give you lung cancer.
lisa33
Has anyone else noticed that since july's smoking ban (a good thing) that standing gigs now all stink of B.O. Some pubs are apparently pumping the smell of cigarette smoke round to cover the smell of BO. That was very good of you to take the "Brat" to see Mika. i don't know that I could have done it. How did you stay awake?
CatsCube
Oh I like Mika. Problem is when artists get so popular when they hav e onlu one album out though, they dont have enough well known sonfs to fill a big slot, or the experience of playing a lot of gigs. Mosts bands work their way tot the top and by the time they are playing big venues when they have an hour long slot to fill they have a god 4 albums under their belt and 4-5 years of touring expeerience behind them. Early gigs are normally "Ooops, word censored!". clubs are having a lot of problems with said BO smell and are having to pump out other smells to try to cover it as its causing a problem. redfrock
that is a shame - I thought he would be a good live act (I must admit his CD is often in my car!) but as others have said ... maybe 1 album does not make a long gig (and something I need to remember for future) After nearly 5 years together I finally managed to get OH to a gig a couple of weeks back and it was fab! We saw KT Tunstall (she came to Folkestone) and while the support band (a substitute) were so dire people were walking out, she was absolutely amazing. An hour and a half of proper live singing, good songs and a great encore. I would definitely see her again. Now I am just keeping an eye out for other local gigs that I can drag him too. chelsea
if you dont mind me asking but was it cheap to go? We went to the foo fighters 2 weeks ago at the NEC for £35 a tkt and they were AWESOME and played non-stop solid for 2 HOURS and played about 25 songs ! we couldnt get over what good value it was. I cant stand Mika, so you did very well to even go in the first place!
The Dogmother
Rosie loves Mika and puts the CD on in the car, but she's gone off him recently since Phil recorded him live on TV and he was (frankly) dreadful!
CatsCube
Oh yeah Foo Fighters life is superb, saw them 9 years ago (god that long!!) and they were superb then, plus I got to see Dave Grohls bare bum *swoon thud*

Guest
i play the piano and i saw Mika do 'Grace Kelly' on Jools Holland once and was blown away by his piano prowess, I think he's gorgeous and I love his long fingers when he plays, reminds me of mine- I just wish I was as good as him! What a shame about the live performance, I'm surprised, I thought he would put on a good show. I love his CD!

How did you stay awake? Staying awake is no problem as over the years I've become a "veteran" with the "Brat" and her awful taste in music Seen them all:- Spice Girls, Atomic Kitten, S Club 7 (and their ****** Juniors), Girls Aloud, Sugababes. Must say not always great to listen to but not too bad on the eyes!!!! Chelsea -- Mika Ticket £ 18.
Janty
Girls Aloud were truly awful when they played Holkham Hall. I took my little monster. Jamelia did half an hour, that awful Ward bloke warbled another half an hour, then we had a 45 minute wait before the supposed highlight Girls Aloud came on and they barely managed 25 minutes. What a disappointment. My son loved it though and that's the main thing. Two weeks later hubby & I went to see Erasure (I'm an 80's pop girl) at UEA. As usual they were amazing and sang for nearly two hours. Don't you just love Andy Bell and Vince Clarke? I feel a new topic coming on. AMO
Hi Clash - I was there on Thursday night too! I don't rate B'ham Carling as a venue because of the low ceiling and ended up watching 1/2 the concert from the bar as the front was jam packed. It was a shame he didn't have any new material to showcase but what we saw and heard was pretty good. AMO x
