Egluntyne
I think it makes the gut unfriendly to certain bacteria.....presumably the smelly ones.
jomaxsmith
I think it makes the gut unfriendly to certain bacteria.....presumably the smelly ones. That makes sense as garlic is one of the supplements they suggest if you suffer from thrush - it kills the candida I presume. I think garlic is fed to horses as an insect repellent. It's magic stuff! I just wonder if my own homegrown stuff will survive the chooks - they keep breaking through the barricades and nibbling the cloves which are just starting to sprout! Olly
That makes sense - I would love to know the scientific answer, I read a letter in the paper today which said that feeding garlic to cows would reduce the methane problem which is seriously threatening the environment. It has an amazing effect on chicken-poo, and the eggs don't taste of garlic - I wonder if it would taint the milk, however? Maybe they meant just feeding it to beef cattle. Someone out there with a scientific aptitude will come along and tell us, I hope!

Guest
I read a letter in the paper today which said that feeding garlic to cows would reduce the methane problem which is seriously threatening the environment. I heard/read somewhere that the seas/oceans produce more methane than anyting else put together. What with all the other living things on the planet farting and consuming, or should that be the other way around, I think we're all doomed! Ladylucan
Another question, though it doesnt make the eggs smell or taste of garlic, if it was fed to table birds, would they taste of Garlic???
Snowy
They say it doesn't affect the taste of the eggs or the birds. I read about another poultry keeper who regularly added curry powder to the feed he was giving to his table birds. He was a bit disappointed that they didn't end up curry flavoured!! It doesn't make the eggs smell or taste of garlic....although if you overdosed them they might. Don't know about table birds though. I imagine not.
