Lesley
Anyway - I can join in the 70's one now - Steve Harley was on TV this morning! Cockney Rebel, still touring and re-releasing 'Come up and see me' in June - 30 years old! And I liked Leo Sayer and Angie by the Stones - I have some memory - some of the time! Like Kate I know a lot of Sixties stuff - I used to be married to someone 6 years older than me, but I draw the line at Doris Day - sorry! Mrs Frugal
Doris Day - sorry I thought I was on River Cottage again!! Seems to be a regular talking point there!! Cockney Rebel? I loved them! "Come Up and See Me" is a great favourite and is one of the ones we play in the car! Yes, the Stones were good. My favourite was always "Sympathy for the Devil" . Wish they'd give it up though - they look like they should be in some Museum now .
Lesley
Perhaps they are friends of Stuart - in his role as Greaper of course!
Mrs Frugal
Funny, I was thinking the same thing as I typed that !
Louise
Maybe I will start an eighties thread then but as for the photos - boy am I glad I don't have a scanner and it is pre digital cameras there are some evil fashion victim shots in the old family album
Mrs Frugal
Yes, go on Louise! An eighties thread would be fun but I agree about the photos - big hair, big shoulders, big belts, white shoes and inch thick slap is something I'd rather forget ! I did like the early 80s look when Lady Di was in the headlines though .
Blackrat
I have been asked to post a link to a version of "Stairway to Heaven" For those of you brave enough to click on this link I should warn you that it may damage what little sanity you have left! http://uk.geocities.com/blackrat779/Rolf.wav I went to see Zepplin at Knebworth back in '78, there was a great line up of acts, but the openers had failed to arrive for the early afternoon start. A last minute change and a trio of happy smiley faced Cockney chaps came on with their own inimitable brand of sing a long melodies. They appeared in front of 1000's of leather clad biker types (Binky was a Black Norton Commando with gold pin stripes in those days ) There was mutual dissappointment. The crowd were dissapointed because they wanted ROCK and showed their displeasure by lighting the paper plates their burgers had come in and sending them frisby style towards the stage. Chas and Dave were disappointed (also their drummer) because they weren't used to this sort of welcome. Finally the Fire brigade became upset because the plates went into the campsite and set some tents on fire. I only tell you this because the Reaper only endorses ROCK and progressive Rock (Mrs Reaper is more into Country, but thats another story) and not the ghastly sounds that the link will take you to. Sheilaz
Luckily I didn't have much sanity left anyway...thanks for doing that, Blackrat...it was just wicked meddling....apologies to anyone damaged by ruination of the original! Can't be any worse than standing in guitar shop while people try playing that on the instruments. I won't suggest Chas.& Dave for the next link then..... Leader of the Pack? (enough corny suggestions,ed.) Now, the bike reference has really taken me back to the '70's! At 17, & working, I was on the point of getting one myself, much to parents dismay. Then was thrown off (pillion) & badly injured (poor parents!) which completely put me off....... Loved the great old British bikes though.. Trish
One of our local guitar shops has a sign on the wall saying "Please feel free to try the guitars, but if you play Stairway to Heaven or Smoke on the Water you will be throw out of the shop"

Mrs Frugal
Stuart, listening to the Rolf clip brought all the pain back on again - so real, like it was yesterday !! Well done for finding it - can you lose it again please !

Blackrat
Just a thought (and I'm as mad as a cheese sandwhich), but have you got any photographs of yourselves back in the 70's to post in an album? I know its off topic, the whole thread is, but I thought it would be a laugh Perhaps the 80s topic could do the same? Any takers? SarahJo
Would help if we had more ... "initial" photos of you all in the 1st place .. then we would have something to compare with . By the way .. I was born in the 70's so may be a tad to little, at the time to post a photo
red
Me too SarahJo - still I was pretty cool in my corduoroy flares on my chopper - especially when wearing my CHIPS crash-helmet! By the 80's I was in school disco heaven in my pastel stillettos and shoulder pads - I did the whole 80's range at some stage from New Romantics to guady colours to sloane ranger chic!! That's not to mention peddle pushers and pixie boots!! I don't know if I'd be brave enough to show photos
red
..... ooh and by the very end of the 80's a was a full-on gothic - spikey hair ... the lot!! Even drank pernot and black
Mrs Frugal
I've got a photo of me in my Bay City Rollers T-shirt but I'll only post it if we have some more Eglu owners photos in the gallery first !!
Louise
I don't have access to a scanner but I have lots of photos and no I am not posting them some of the clothes my mother dressed me in during the 70's left alot to be desired - mind you the ones I dressed myself in the 80's were as bad maybe worse

Sheilaz
Just a thought ... but have you got any photographs of yourselves back in the 70's to post in an album? Any takers? Stuart Well, I was going to post '70's photo & pretend it was an up to date one, although, come to think of it, I haven't changed at all (apart from loss of youthful look, wrinkles, & added weight)...hair & clothes pretty similar! Well, maybe not stripey tank top & maroon "loons" (remember those?)... & brilliant photo of me sitting on OH car bonnet in Biba halter neck top, jeans, & stripey socks up to past knees (amazing how those came around again). I think most people will be more interested in car though...an Austin Cambridge with a cartoon painted on the door (by OH)...."Is this a dagger I see before me?".....I've no idea why now... Oh, & I'm guilty as charged, no photo at all yet.....but I like Blackrat's idea...just give me a few days (weeks) to work out technology (we didn't even have calculators you know!) Guest
oooooh Sheila - I remember those socks! I used to wear mine with some awful cork wedge sling back shoes and hot pants - YUUUCCCKK!! Don't worry everyone, I wont be posting a photo of THAT in the gallery! I also had a suzi quatro haircut - do you remember those! Sheilaz
Now I am nostalgic....was about 14 or so, & very proud of my lilac hotpants! By the next Summer, best friend & I giggled all the way home when our hotpants caused an accident...leering car driver drove into back of next car in traffic jam (only bumper damage). Such innocence! Thought Suzi Quatro was great!
Mrs Frugal
An Austin Cambridge!! Oh Sheila we had one of those !! Ours was white with maroon seats which stuck to your legs when it was hot and made rude noises when you moved ! I loved the car. We swapped it for an even more gorgeous Westminster which was coffee coloured on the lower half and beige on the top with coffee coloured leather seats and wooden picnic tables which folded down from the back of the front seats. It was a fabulous car and it broke our hearts when Dad was given a company car and we had to change it for a horrible orange Austin Princess . The Westminster (or Wessie as we used to call it) was towed away for banger racing for £15. Imagine what it would have been worth if we'd kept it today. I'll just wipe the tears away.............. Sheilaz
Great description Kate. Should I start a "cars I have known" thread?! My parents had a Zephr convertible, followed by a couple of Hillman Superminx convertibles. Both in their 80's now, Father was driving the latter until about 3 years ago when it was stolen...parked in countryside when they went for their daily walk (you can see where I get the eccentricity). It appears that thieves, not opportunists, deliberately drive around Herts/Beds countryside looking for cars to steal. In different location, there had already been unsuccessful attempt. I think they had about 3 break ins & 2 (yes two) thefts in this way in about 18 months, yet have been going out daily for 15 years no probs. Absolutely sickening isn't it......all the spare pairs of glasses & jackets they've had to replace (locked away, not visible) & no good to anyone else. Is there a blood pressure boiling emotion.........everytime they go out, they have to wonder, will the car be there when we get back? They deserve better!
