The Dogmother
Every year, all the family get a Christmas card from my uncle and his family, who live in Singapore. Every year, since I met Phil, they've addressed it to Clare, Rosie and NEIL!!!!!! I wouldn't mind, but Phil's name is on the card we send them. AND.... every year, we get a 2 page eulogy to their talented daughter stuffed inside it! Complete with a list of her achievements and loads of photos. I think that next year I'll bin it before opening it and save myself the grief
Tessa the Duchess
Claret wrote: AND.... every year, we get a 2 page eulogy to their talented daughter stuffed inside it! Complete with a list of her achievements and loads of photos I detest these round robin impersonal things I have/had a very old friend who lives in NZ and every christmas I would get a two page update on her 'incredibly' clever, beautiful, handsome children with the 'photos to prove just how amazing they were. One year I sent her my own version, I just wrote "both sons in prison for armed robbery" Never heard from her again Bad to get your b.fs name wrong though Tessa
The Dogmother
Sorry, but it just hacks me off - I wouldn't mind, but the card they send it in is blank - no name or anything
Egluntyne
Aaarrrggghhh!! I share your anger Clare. One of Him Indoors' relatives has called me Angela for the past 30 years. Remember last years "Round Robin" thread?
The Dogmother
Remember last years "Round Robin" thread? I do! Some of them can be informative and amusing, but I don't like the bragging ones. I just figure that if people want to know what I am up to, they will either email or call me or read my blog. Popcorn
Bizarre how they don't write in the card? Do they think you'll put a blank card up? If you wait for it to arrive next year, use it to send it back to them. Call it doing your bit for the environment!! It is difficult to get the balance right when talking about your own children. We all love our own so much, it's easy to get carried away. but I must admit that entire scenario would rub me up the wrong way too. They obviously don't read your card to know Phil is Phil and not Neil. A colleague of mine at work calls Darren, Andrew. I correct her every time, but it still gets put in the xmas card
The Dogmother
I shall recycle the card somehow Gina, sending it back to them next year is a good idea. My folks are out today, so I can't wait to hear what they've got from them!
Cinnamon
My MIL still thinks I am a SARA rather than SARAH, & spells CLEO as CLIO I have been a member of her family for 20 years now & Cleo is nearly 13 Mind you The Hubby is just as bad.He spent the first 2 weeks of Cleos life telling everyone she was called Chloe I like those fairy lights by the way Claret - where did you find them,or did your clever man make it up for you? little chickadee
I'm afraid I'm guilty of the round robin thing, as with my M.E I just can't write personal messages in everyone's cards - I do apologise in the first line of the round robin though!!!! Egluntyne
Yep....it's the bragograms that get up most people's noses. Family chat and news is quite different.
The Dogmother
I doubt that I'd even be able to remember what has gone on during the year in order to write it down!
Cate in NZ
One year I sent her my own version, I just wrote "both sons in prison for armed robbery" That reminded me of a very successful friend of ours, who was "something" in the City, working in the financial markets and earning an absolute fortune, had a great home, beautiful wife and 2 gorgeous daughters. So basically living a charmed life . He signed onto Friends Reunited and read all his ex classmates comments about how successful they were blah, blah. So he decided to rebel against that, and in the space where you're supposed to enter what you're doing now he wrote {a very naughty word, that would be censored here}.......all His wife was appalled and made him delete it I hate round robins too, but have just written one . Only because there are a few acquaintances (true friends and close family already know) who don't yet know about our moving plans, and this is a great time to tell them, and hope that they scrub our names off next year's Christmas card list So my round robin is all, Hi, hope you're well this Christmas. Just let you know we're moving. Have a great 2008. Goodbye . No boasts, I promise

ubereglu
Round robins generally are very annoying. Mum gets several every year and I read a couple of them. It's very entertaining to read letters from one of her cousins, as she is such a s"Ooops, word censored!" so I entertain her by sending them up!!! In the Christmas cards I send to relatives, not many, thankfully! Just to my Uncle, my Aunt, my Mum's two godmothers, (practically family!!!), my grandad and that's it. I just write what I'm enjoying, how the hens are and what other things I'm up to.
