Egluntyne
Arrrrgh!! My washing machine has broken down!!! I got it on 28th Dec last year as my old one conked out on 23rd Dec. In the past week I have had to call out repair people to the upstairs Sky Box and the boiler. Now the Washing machine has stopped draining and is showing an E20 fault which shows summat up with the drainage. I have been through the palaver described in the booklet three times to try to get it going to no avail. There appears to be something stuck in the filter thingy which I can't reach to get out. Last year Cinnamon and I bought the same machine at about the same time and we challenged each other to a contest to see who had to call out a repairer first. Looks like I've won......or looked at another way....lost. Middle son came home from university on Fri with two Ikea bags full of washing and I had a couple of loads myself. it cost £24 to have a service wash at the launderette. In previous years my dishwasher has broken down twice at christmas and one hideous year both dishwasher and washing machine broke down. Aaaaarrrrggghhh. Egluntyne
Someone's coming tomorrow. Between 9.30am and 6pm. I hope it is nearer to 9.30am!
xScrunchee
I wonder why people can never give you a time within an hour or two time slot?? It's always between 8am and 6pm or 7am and 8pm. It's very annoying. A two hour time slot would be so much easier!!
moochoo
If it's any consilation in the last month we have had to replace.....central heating boiler, washing machine, tumble dryer, shower unit, filter in hoover and yesterday my tv!!! I think we have a household virus. Why is it so expensive to repair old things? I would have much preferred to repair than replace but new items were cheaper! One Man Banned
By the way,do let me know what the John Lewis repair service is like, won't you? Hopefully a lot better than the John Lewis Customer Services It's so annoying when your appliances decide to give up the ghost. Touch wood it's only the car that has decided to play up so she's just been dropped off to the garage AGAIN this morning. We've been waiting for a new fridge freezer for Christmas, that got delivered last week, but damaged. JL have been hell to get this sorted and we are waiting for a replacement today - And they had better be here by 0930!!! Still, they have promised to sort out something by way of an apology. Beware though, the customer services helpline is seconded out to an outside company, so they don't share the same values as the store staff (and it shows ) - ditto with the couriers they use JL are aware they don't do what they expect them to do Good luck for the repairman tho! Guest
You have my sympathies Egluntine A couple of years ago we were going away for Christmas and my machine broke down the day before we were going It was a few years old so we decided to get a new one. Tried all the big companies like Argos and Comet and none would deliver thill the New Year. Then had a brainwave and called the local repair and sales shop and he had a new machine that was a lot cheaper than the big companies So he delivered it the same day and he took the old one away He always does any electrical repairs we have now. He is very reliable and will always come out when I have finished work so I don't have to have a day off to wait in

bronze
You shouldnt have to pay at all. Its less than a year old. good luck getting it repaired. I would go potty without a washing machine for more than to days.

One Man Banned
Well some good news for me at least They delivered the new appliance at 0935 after ringing us just before to say they were on their way. At least this one is in perfect condition but I'm now left with a huge pile of cardboard and polystyrene to dispose of They had no room on the back to take the packaging apparantly - the cardboard I can deal with to get recycled but the foam, still I'm off to Cribb's later today so might just stick it in the car and drop it to JL store The guys who came were a bit like Laurel and Hardy (one dropped it on the other's foot ) and one of them swore like a navvie - will be having a word about that for sure!! Cinnamon
I am so suprised at the problems you have been having Andrew, as I always thought John Lewis' customer service was supposed to be really good, which is why I shop with them A letter to head office is needed I think....... I have been having problems with Next for the past week. They have failed to collect a faulty item for return 5 times so far - what possible excuse can there be for mucking a customer around so much? Cinnamon
Sort of. It transpires that as we bought them via our business, we don't have the right to ask for a refund if they are faulty within 12 months. That was NOT made clear to us when we bought them So, rather than send them both off again ,which would be the thirs time,we are buying new transformers for them both & seeing if that works. It has all been a real headache, & while I don't usually give up easily with things like this,I have truly had enough now & cannot bear to send them off for 2 weeks again
The Dogmother
Sorry, but I can't see how purchasing something through your busines affects your rights as a consumer. I'd check that one out... perhaps call them anonymously and ask what sort of guarantee you'd have on items purchased on your business account. There must be some sort of consumer watchdog that can give you some information on this.
Tina C
Sarah - a friend of mine has just had problems with Next too - soaking sofas. That was after deciding - 4 years after having to have 5 tables delivered - things might have improved. Needless to say Next won't ever be getting busines from her again. I have been having problems with Next for the past week. They have failed to collect a faulty item for return 5 times so far - what possible excuse can there be for mucking a customer around so much? About as shocked as I was Sarah, it'd driven me mad how they have messed me about this last week. Hence why I asked outright to one of them if they were employed on the same basis as the store staff or were they an outsourced call centre, they replied the latter. My response to it wasn't very polite but along the lines of "that's why they didn't give a hoot" but I was in a foul mood They haven't phoned me like they said they would today to make sure everything was sorted and to discuss something by way of an apology so if they don't ring me tomorrow morning, I'll ring them!!....Again I agree with Clare about the laptops, I don't think it makes any difference that as they were bought via the business it should affect your rights to as for a refund as quite clearly they have decieved you twice regaring replacing said transformers and given the age of the laptops it's not at all unreasonable. Ask them how they'd like suing under consumer protection laws for not doing work they claim they have, fraud I think...... A xx A xx
chelsea
OMG, I was going to post this yesterday! Its not just you eglutine! Our boiler was broken for 3 weeks, we were out hot water and heating for a week and we had to have a new circuit board (havent had bill yet ) Yesterday my tumble dryer packed up and I cannot be without a dryer so we went straight out and bought another one. Our sky plus box keeps playing up and switching itself off....so no doubt this will be the 3rd thing. This is on top of paying out £200 on 2 new tyres for the landrover in November. Cate in NZ
How bizarre. I've ben having a nightmare time with essential items breaking. It started with the iron, (which was admittedly old) dying last week, then the brand new replacement iron went up in a shower of sparks at the end of last week............then the even newer replacement iron went and did the exact same thing yesterday . They were both exactly the same iron........a dodgy batch perhaps Then my car decided to simply stop, approx 2 hours after hubby and his car left to go to Stansted airport on Saturday am, en route for a quick trip to Norway. It drove me to the locally Post Office happily enough (I would normally have walked, but I had parcels to carry and it was raining, I thought the car would be easier ). Anyway, finally got it going and we limped home at 5 miles an hour, and I was stuck, a hundred things to do and places to be and no car. Sunday morning and my vacuum cleaner decided to roll over and die My washing machine breaks down regularly, and is whining again. Luckily I have a fabulous repairman who has worked miracles wih it. I'm trying to decide whether to call hm out now, give him a bit of notice for a change, or to wait until it does give up again
