Sans Shampoo haircare

Recommended Posts

As I thought, the curls disappeared and it just went bushy when it was dry :( . I did put conditioner on it and also some "curl defining" spray stuff but they never seem to make a difference.

Louise, I had it about 4 inches longer until a couple of months ago. Looking back at photos I realise it didn't look great - I never really got curls, just wavy bits and frizz. I used to straighten it but it was such hard work. I love my hair at the back, it's the sides that really annoy me. I can't bear having hair in my face.

I still think I'll get it cut. It'll be so much easier for our cycling holiday in July.

Well, the deed is done :D . Five or so years of growing the layers out ended up on the cutting room floor :? . But .... I really like it :D . It's nice and short and doesn't flap about in my face any more. I don't know if I'll get it looking like the hairdresser did ever again, but I don't mind!

I went to the garage to collect my car afterwards and the garage owner (who've I've been going to for years, made quite complimentary comments  ). Oh, and OH wolf whistled when he saw it  .

What do you think? (First one's a bit fuzzy - blame ES!)

Your hair looks good! :P I'm always yo-yoing between short and 'growing out'

If you've got wavy/curly hair the best way to avoid frizz is move to a hot climate! My hair looks great if I just leave it to dry naturally when abroad, when I do it at home it looks like I've had a perm in the 80s :x Would love to try not using shampoo but don't think I could cope with the grease.

Your hair looks really nice. :)

I'm actually not minding mine too much at the moment, as I've tried something new. After I do the 'plunking', I finger curl my hair (only takes a few minutes - I don't do the underneath bits), then it dries in larger more ringletty curls, rather than the stringy curls and frizz I had before. I still have frizz, but less so.

Oh dear... I had a really embarrassing moment today! My hair was still waxy and sticky after washing it today, and me and the OH went out for lunch. I just rested my head briefly against the window, and then realised I'd left an icky white sebumy mark, with marks of where my individual hairs had been too! I wanted to try to rub it off, but didn't want to draw attention to it!:lol:

Now I can't decide whether to try to ride out this sticky phase, or to do one of my occasional shampoos. It's been at least 10 weeks, so I can see myself giving in to the lure of the occasional shampoo...

I had a shampoo at the hairdressers on Thursday and today my head felt quite itchy :? . I'm hoping it was the shampoo and not lice. There's a girl at school with them and I was sitting close to her before I knew :( .

On a happier note, I was out with loads of colleagues yesterday and everyone commented on my hair :D . Even the (very few) blokes commented favourably  . And as the alcohol sank in, more people kept saying they loved my new haircut. The words "sophisticated" and "younger" were bandied about :dance: .

I love it - no more hairbands, clasps or hair in my face :D .

:lol: ...sorry, shouldn't laugh. but I could just picture the window...

I know!! I was mortified!:lol: I dread to think what I'd have felt like if I'd been with a friend or something other than the OH!

Got to give in to the shampoo I think - I can't be doing with embarrassing moments like that, and this horrible white waxy powdery stuff is just yuk. Even my guinea pigs get a shampoo every once in a while, so am trying not to beat myself up over it!

I feel like I've given in to some horrible temptation (like giving up shampoo is the equivalent of giving up smoking or something! ), but I have shampooed my hair today. It feels so lovely and cleeeeeeeeeeeean. :) It's not too dried out, because it had got so icky beforehand, but I do need to be careful not to do it too often.

I might even end up shampooing once a week, but I will try to go a few weeks between shampoos. I use lime juice after shampoo and conditioner, which definitely helps a bit.

 Definitely don't feel guilty, it's not "giving up" as it's just an interesting theory which you've been testing.

I didn't feel at all bad at stopping after nearly a year of no shampoo because I knew the time was right not to continue.

However, I've never used a pre Project shampoo since, it has to be non sls/sles and not too frequently for me.

If you use these, you'll really notice a difference over time between the pre & post experiment hair.

I found it was well worth doing and, although I had many yuk days that year, I'm really pleased with my hair now.

Funny, I was thinking about this thread just yesterday! I'm only a few weeks off one year without using shampoo (apart from 3 times at the hairdressers). Can't say my hair is markedly less dry than before - I still have to use conditioner and mousse - but it has made my life easier :) .

That Wen stuff looks interesting - I take it you can't get it in the UK :? ?

Just stumbled on this post .... As a hairdresser I think there is something to be said for NOT using shampoo, which strips the hair of ALL natural oil.

Did you read the whole topic?:lol:

Wish you lived nearer, I've never found a good hairdresser & I bet you're fab. 8)

Not that you'd have wanted to see my hair when I was off shampoo (11 months).

But, it's refreshing to hear of one hairdresser who supports the non shampoo idea!

PS. I recently posted elsewhere that Faith in Nature is now for sale in some Oxfam shops. :D

P.P.S. Who is still doing the no shampoo, and how's it going?
