Hey Buffster!! Glad you're back!!

Well done Kooringa for the brilliant summary. I think you've covered everything there. Oh yes, Dan's passed his MBA so you must go and congratulate him!! What else? Hmmmm, lots of nice newbies have joined. Poor RevNev has lost his hens to a fox which is so sad. Eglus have been bought and sold in the second hand Eglu section and I've still only got ONE! We've all been SO helpful to Murdo when he asked us what colour glug and grub feeders he should get to go with his yellow Eglu  .

Make yourself comfy and have a good read, dear. Great to have you back!

I have had my chooks for over a year and have never cleaned their feet..............I think it only needs to be done if they gather a lot of mud between their toes or are kept indoors on litter when they can get poo stuck to their feet this can cause problems. So I wouldn't worry too much.

Welcome back Buffie, glad you had a good holiday, hope you remembered your pedometer...........:lol:

I did and we clocked up 37 miles and averaged 15000 to 21000 steps 9all up hill). Daisie is now a full of fun pup and needs more walking so I am now averging 14000 a day. No gym fees and lots of fun with Daisie!! :D:D

On the subject of feet this is a pearl thing I learnt. I did wash their feet once a week as a contact for them with me and also for a check over. Pearl told me about vaseline a few times a year to prevent scaley legs so that's what I was doing, start just by leg feather and over feet. It's very easy and if you start early they get used to the water and enjoy the contact. It was a bonus as I discoverd the lice and was able to check them all. A production line of ecover baths for each of them. It helps me examine their feet and legs to check the scales too. I have to be honest I thought mine would never get lice etc but goes to show even the buffster can get infestations :shock:

Ordered the Diatom (am I right in spelling?) and will apply and feed them all.

That's interesting BB. I have a weekend to myself on the 18/19, so may well wash their feet then, although to be honest, it is easier with two people.

Dolly got her topknot wet the other day, then dangled it in her food, so it dried into spikes! She wasn't too amused when I tried to wash it, but she cleaned it on her own. When the weather is really warm, I will give them all baths, but it's not something I plan to do regularly.

maybe I should start, they constantly walk round with clods of earth or poo stuck to their feet. It's just not ladylike!

I could hose them down.

Clare you should have left Dolly with the punky hairdo-any pictures?!

Welcome back Buffie, great to hear that you had such a good holiday. Not so good to hear about the lice though, a bit of a reminder to me to check more often, I'd been very assiduous in my checks during the summer, but sort of assumed it was a warm weather problem, so let the habit slip. I'll be back to thorough checking this weekend for sure.

I must do mine too, but they all need worming so I am going to check them over when we do that - it's easier if Phil helps. The thing is that we usually do the worming dose in the evening when it won't be easy to see any bugs on them. Might have to do it at lunchtime when I go home - that'd be nice; chook poo all down my work clothes
