Lesley
I had two little helpers today - making the gingerbread houses for Christmas Day tea......... They each decorated their own and I will make two more to fit on the board for my sister's children..... There are lots of piles of snowballs - difficult to see them... Mrs Frugal
Well done Jake and Lauren! They're fab! I've got an Ikea one to make up but have been so busy making things for hampers that I'd completely forgotten about it! The boys can do it on Boxing Day. It'll keep them quiet . bronze
I can never make the right kind of gingerbread. When I was little my best friends mum made fabulous two story houses decorated with sweets I've always wanted to try andmake them for my kids but can never make the gingerbread right. Everything you lot do looks so professional I'm highly jealous
Snowy
How do you make the icing to glue the bits together? You've inspired me to give this a go with the boys today. Need to get some sweeties for decoration, but not sure exactly what icing mix to use for sticking!
craftyhunnypie
Hi Lesley - Gorgeous gingerbread houses. Well done! Oh & can I buy your house from you & your interior designer too! Ain't Nobody Here
Lesley, is that icicles hanging from your fruit basket? They are lovely - where did you get them (or has it been extremely cold where you are and you've kept your central heating low ).
Snowy
OK, so we attempted the gingerbread house Made up some buttercream icing, got the house out of the packet, stuck together the ends and one side. Then we came unstuck. The other side was broken. I botched it together and the boys started decorating it. Whereupon it promptly collapsed Never mind, good fun was had after all At least they won't want lunch today!

Jules.
Help! I am having terrible trouble melting the 200g of sugar that the instructions say to use to stick the house together.... It keeps going like rice krispies. What am I doing wrong? I've never melted sugar before. It's on a really low heat, too.
Snowy
That sounded too faffy for me Jules. I used buttercream icing - although that wasn't much better
Jules.
Well we persevered with melting the sugar & it eventually turned all brown & sticky Here's the result, ta-da! http://club.omlet.co.uk/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=19832
