Guest
I think a lot of the problem is the hectic lives we lead. We don't have time to mentally catalogue the information we receive. I find I have the same memory problems that other people have mentioned and I too always prided myself on remembering everything. I still remember birthdays of people I haven't seen since I was at school! On the occasional day when I feel on top of things and well-organised (not very often ) I can remember new information well, but when my head is already a muddle the new facts just get added and lost in the general mess! I agree that tiredness and poor diet has a lot to answer for!
The Dogmother
I've got the dates thing sorted - EVERYTHING is logged on Outlook on my PC at home, so it pings me in advance of any dates. The problem is remembering to enter the dates in the first place
Guest
I do that too Clare, especially with anything that I think I might forget!
Sheilaz
I think my long term memory of adverts, songs, tv, films (anything pop culture from the 70s and 80s) is all permanently etched on my brain leaving little space for anything new that has happened since 1990 (which means I have to keep overwriting the more recent stuff)... Only the '70s for me, but exactly the same principle. I remember trying to smuggle a transistor radio into a school assembly so that I could hear the new week's chart order as it was revealed...it was so important that T.Rex should be number one! My friends & I coul;d recite the ever changing top 30 without error, and discussed how cool (groovy far out etc) it would be if we could take O level (GCSE) Pop Charts...we'd all pass in the 3rd year (year 9)! Which does show how the advice about learning being easier when you're interested is very true. Recently, my daughter studied the equivalent of A level...in Contemporary Popular Music... well, it was more than just the charts, but nevertheless I can see myself in the future as an OAP in a home, hopeless with senile dementia, not knowing who I am or how to look after myself but having the completely useless ability to quote all of Alexei Sayle's monologues... Wow, I'll keep you company (Dan, MBA) I'll bring you a cup of tea, and we can remember all names of all the chickens we have known, and play word association...& I'll be quoting Monty Python. My son already talks about when he puts me in a home..it has to be where I can play scrabble!
Mrs Frugal
Me too Dan! I can remember song lyrics, quotes from films, TV theme tunes, adverts etc but can't remember what I did yesterday ! We'll be the ones winning the Baby Boomer editions of Trivial Pursuits in the OAP care homes !

ali-s
Me too Also I do things and don't realise I am doing it. Like the time I went to work with 5 pairs of Jack's boxer shorts in my hand Meant to put them in the ironing basket (kept next to the back door) on my way out to work. I didn't notice I had still got them until I came to take my coat off at work Funny thing though, my friend was giving me a lift to work and she never said anything

Sheilaz
....... my auntie had pin-ups of Marc Bolan from the ceiling to the floor of her bedroom wall. I was petrified to go in there at night because I thought Marc Bolan's eyes were following me around the room!!! But.. .I thought his eyes were following me! quote] Loved the boxer shorts one, Ali. Mel (& Paul)
My brother stayed with us once and we were woken by him opening our bedroom door and peeing on the carpet. He was also completely naked. How I thanked God that I am TOTALLY short sighted and couldnt see him in his glory
