Ziggy
Hi there, You might (or not) remember I asked you if you would mind my copying your design for a cake... well here it is... It's a plain sponge cake which we made so they'd have something fun to eat while we had our traditional xmas pudding... the cake and icing were done (with some help, but not too much help) by my three elder daughters, aged 10, 8 and 5.... the smallest cake was done by the five year old, who would only agree to the 'round' shape her sisters wanted, rather than the square shape she wanted, if she could make her own... (there was a lot of political debate in the kitchen before we finally got to the action...) Thought I'd show you the result, so you can see what you inspired I thought it was not bad at all, considering it was made by three children... Egluntyne
Absolutely delightful. I particularly like the expression on the face of the penguin front right on the back cake if you see what I mean.

Guest
that reminds me, when is 'The Sound of Music' on? cute cakes, very good considering their ages! I doubt I could make something like that even at my age. How did they taste?
Ain't Nobody Here
That's fantastic . What a brilliant job they've done! I wish I'd thought of the wee balls for eyes , they make their expressions really cute! They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery . (I think my in-laws, parents, kids and OH were quite impressed with my cake too - kids kept asking "did you really make those penguins yourself?" .) Ziggy
Thanks everyone, the girls were very pleased to read your comments... they have helped me with cake icing before, so it wasn't their very first try... the cake itself tasted lovely, but I find it dries off pretty quick... I'm told iced cakes shouldn't be kept in air-tight containers, how does everyone else keep their iced sponge cakes fresh?

Ziggy
what......????? you have to store it????? are you sure? We don't eat it that fast... and together those two cakes are rather big... also often we bake and decorate it two days before eating it, and already by then it starts to dry out... Haven't thought of putting it in the fridge... for some reason I thought that wasn't so good for the icing...
