Snow on the way

Recommended Posts

I remember the winter of '62. ( or was it '63?)

So will Lesley....but we were very small indeed.

The snow was so deep that trenches had to be cut along garden paths to get out to the road. It must have been 3 feet deep.

I particularly remember a bus sliding back down a nearby road which was a steep hill. Very dramatic.

Nooooooooooooooooooooo  - we have to go back to Luton on Thursday to collect son and his girlfriend :(

So far we've been to Luton in the summer floods and freezing fog....... :?

We can expect heavy snow between Stratford and Luton then!

I was a baby in the winter of 62, so don't really remember. I do remember 87 though. Bitterly cold. We had a triple aspect single-glazed bedroom with no heating. I remember wearing a track suit over my PJs, two pairs of socks a hat and gloves to go to bed. Hot water bottles too but it was just too cold. We took the mattress downstairs and slept there. Our water froze and we had to flush the toilet with buckets of water from the house over the road. To get that we had to dig ourselves out - I'm sure it was more than 3 feet deep. That was very very cold!

Oooh I can do that too.

I think its misleading advertising when they say how low in fat ONE jaffa cake is. I don't know anybody who can eat JUST ONE Jaffa cake.

ONE packet maybe.

Well they go stale if you put them in the cupboard.

OK now I'm reminded again of just why I was weighing in at 20 stone 9 pounds a few months ago!

OH announced yesterday that he has lost a stone in the last month (not that he needed to  ).

I didn't feel the need to mention that he is getting scarily close to what I weigh  . As a result of this shocking news I have been for a (short) run every day bar one since Christmas. Now I just need to stop stuffing my face at every opportunity and I may actually lose some weight  .

Did I mention that he's 6'1" and I'm not? :(

Same year as I was born Vicki - my mother tells me that it started snowing on boxing day and there was still snow on the ground in March! She had an old sliver cross pram for me and used to put a hot water bottle in it to keep me warm, then drag the pram down the road to the shops, then pul it back again - it wasn't possible to push it!

I love snow and look forward top getting a good fall - I was bringing the logs nearer the house today just in case.

Lesley - good to hear that you're geting your stove in the end - which one did you go for?

I stocked up on logs and kindling on the way home. Tomorrow I must get house coal and firelighters. This could be the chance to light the rayburn and the fire in the living room too. - It will be snug and warm.

Off to see my 92 year old grannie tomorrow and make sure all of her heating is switched on - she has been saving the planet recently and her house has been freezing. Tomorrow her fridge will be filled and her cupboards to make sure she is snug, warm and well fed.

The Met have issued their severe weather warning for snow tomorrow and Friday - Shona is in a high risk (60%) area

:(:(:(:(

Don't mind snow too much, but chookiehubbie has to drive to and from Edinburgh everyday. He'll have to stay with his mum.

At least snow will keep the children occupied for a while, given that they are alll bored with their Christmas presents.

The poor girl wouldn;t be able to cope with my lot!!

Just had a look at the map, and yes, I'm slap bang in the middle of the 60% risk area. Hope the baby doesn't decide to come early.... :anxious:
