chocchick
Our first egg!!! It's too small for our egg cups (it's padded with straw), but I don't care. Beth is a genius and has taken charge of the flock too!
myles
Great news....she was a good buy. The big question what to make with it
chocchick
Maybe wait for another today/tomorrow and have for breakfast with John. I like boiled with soldiers, or possibly fried with lovely bacon from the farm shop.

chocchick
Oh, I was meaing to ask: do your Amber Stars have small combs? My two have tiny combs, and have since I've had them, and people have suggested they haven't matured yet as they have small combs.
Mel (& Paul)
Our two do have bigger combs than yours - but we got them in June when they were about 2 months old, so they are coming up to a year. It might be that they are still fairly immature. Our white stars (and the saphires) had really tiny combs when they first arrived in October - but they did get bigger and started laying at the end of December

chocchick
Took ages to get a picture where she didn't have her head down eating, and she wasn't a moving blur!
Mel (& Paul)
Most of our photos of the chickens seem to be of their fluffy bottoms as they decide there is something tasty on the other side of the garden- they are definitely not camera stars
chocchick
Digital cameras are the way forward...... Beth does have a particularly cute fluffy bottom though!
The Dogmother
Your amberstars do look young Choccy, their physique isn't so mature. You wait, they'll start to go red and sprout combs soon enough. grd posted a pic of his amberstar, and she has an enormous comb.
chocchick
point of lay grrrr Where is GRD's amberstar?
The Dogmother
I think the photo was in a message somewhere, but I can't remember where.
Mel (& Paul)
I've got a digital camera - and have to use "action shot" to get any sort of picture of the chooks You can see our amberstars in the gallery - but I have just spent yonks trying to find the album and cant
chocchick
You have one picture in the sticky about breeds of chicken, and I did see it a while back, but I can't find the album either. I found this picture of an amberstar in the gallery where you can see the comb. I think this is is the size of comb they need to aspire to. I think Grd's amberstar is actually a whitestar if it is the one with the huge comb you meant. I have no idea if there is a difference apart from in colour Edited February 15, 2006 by Guest
