Joojoo
We are going to Sri Lanka for our friends wedding. I am very excited. Although the diet starts tomorrow, not looking forward to the next seven weeks. My diet should have started on Thursday but the lure of fried egg and chips to cheer me up after my first day back at work was too strong
Lesley
Don't forget Sandi Toksvig's diet - half a diet - eat whatever you want but just half of what you would normally eat! I lost 8lbs before Christmas doing that and going to the gym - I didn't feel as if I was missing anything!
Lovemychooks
Roatan - Bay Islands, off the coast of Honduras...... I know someone who has a villa on there. You can swim with dolphins........ and just relax. My cousin lives in Roatan and loves it ! I would also recommend The Maldives, lovely and relaxing

Just looking at the pics. on the site that wouldn't happen to be your grand children swimming with dolphins, they look like they are having a great time. We wanted to go with them last year...... and this year but it is somewhat difficult to take holidays now It is a very laid back sort of place........... and you just walk into the sea from a beach to be with the dolphins........ xraylady
My divorce will be finalised on 30th January after 4 years. I sit here night after night on my own and would just love someone to snuggle up with. I've hardly seen Ashley all over Christmas and New Year as he is 14 and off with his mates. I would never stop him from enjoying his childhood but it just makes me feel even more lonely I desperately need to get some sunshine and even if it's not for a few months it will be something to look forward to, so... has anyone got any ideas for a lovely hot and sunny destination where I can lounge around with my book and generally relax? Any ideas would be welcome well we can't do 'hot' just yet. . . but sunny - you had better bring a quality pair of sunglasses! Bright sunshine, clear blue skies, fresh powder glittering like diamonds and deep green firs loaded with mountain snow - breathtaking, and absolutely guaranteed to lift the spirits! Sign up your your young man with snowboard school (he will think you are the coolest Mum ever!) sit back in the sunshine with a drink and enjoy the attention from delicious hunky ski-types as soon as you open your 'exotic' mouth. . . The dollar is weak right now and the Sundance Film Festival is coming right up. . .(man, I sound like Judith Chalmers ) but even if Utah doesnt appeal, I'm wishing you all the best for the New Year in getting out of your funk I've done the whole single parent thing (remarried to a lovely American now ) so I do know how disspiriting it can get Hang in their kiddo! chrisnrob
Been to Malta a couple of times and would recommend it as well. Second time we went was for my 50th birthday and we stayed here. http://www.hotelfortina.com/page.asp?p=9171&l=1 It wasn't quite as posh as it is now but still very lovely and luxurious. Plenty opportunities for lazying about and being pampered and also for going out on day trips. Maltese bus system is great if you like to do it alone. We've been to Malta and stayed at the same hotel and it was fabulous (well, apart from a grumpy old man in a lift telling me he didn't like my t-shirt!) We also got it as a last minute things so it wasn't as expensive as it looks. Some friends of ours went to Malta and used one of the local buses. At one point the rear window fell out! The driver just stopped the bus, put the window back in and carried on with his journey. Have you thought about a cruise? Different place to see every day or just lie around on deck taking in the sun? Rob

Different place to see every day or just lie around on deck taking in the sun? Rob Thanks Rob. I've been looking at websites all weekend and I think I've finally fried my brain I'm going to send my passport off this week as it needs renewing then I shall start scouring the travel agents for last minute deals. I always worry that there may be some problem or other with them, mainly because my 14 year old son will be with me and I don't want to take him on a bad holiday, BUT I'm going to be brave for 2008 and leave it to a month or so before we want to go. Although I'm sure cruises are wonderful I'm not quite sure that it would be right for me. Some friends went to Malta a few years running and said it was lovely. As it will probably be the last foreign holiday I have with Ashley I think I might prefer to go further afield than Europe this time. chelsea
i know this isnt sunshine (but its a holiday thread - hope you dont mind Ju ) but I've just booked this for this year - It can only be reached down a track by 4x4 and has no neighbours, but has direct access to the loch....fab! chrisnrob
I'm going to send my passport off this week as it needs renewing Well that should cut your holiday budget by half then Although I'm sure cruises are wonderful I'm not quite sure that it would be right for me. Fair enough. We've only been on one and loved it and would like to do another. We've got friends who say the same as you though. Each to their own... Some friends went to Malta a few years running and said it was lovely. I have heard people say it's one of those places that you either love or hate. We went because a lady I worked with had been going for years and thoroughly recommended it. We both then recommended it to someone else and she absolutely hated it! As it will probably be the last foreign holiday I have with Ashley I think I might prefer to go further afield than Europe this time. Sounds like a good plan to me. Wherever you go, don't forget to take an Omlet t-shirt Rob

That looks just like where we stayed in the highlands a few years ago. Stunning It took us 10 hours to drive there and was over an hour from the nearest supermarket but it was well worth it! Whereabouts is it that you're going? We were on the West Coast near Gairloch,an hour and a half from Ullapool. x

We go to the highlands every year....it takes us a long time from Devon too! Saw plenty of seals and porpoise but sadly no sea otters I've always fancied spending christmas and new year locked away in a crofters cottage in the Highlands. Just need to find a nice man to snuggle up with in front of a log fire now I wonder if Dave Grohl has any plans for celebrating Christmas 2008?
