buffie
I just couldn't bare to see the Eglu empty for much longer, so we re built the run, it actually looks smart (had to do something for hen parties) Anyway this now completed we found (ok I found) we had room for 3 more girls and those just had to be BHWT ex Batts of course. Called Ian and Molly and just emailed to book them. So ordered and collect end of Feb. BBxx
Egluntyne
Yippee! I'm feeling so guilty about having an empty Eglu. I bought it initially for 2 reasons. 1. I thought it would be a good idea to have a sin bin/sick bay. 2. It was Yellow. Every time I look at it I can feel it reproving me and telling me to get some ex batts. Trouble is....all the rescue centres are miles away. What should I do?. Would a local poultry farmer allow me to buy 3 "spent" hens? I don't want to rock any boats or get things wrong. Heeelp! buffie
They can travel some distance Anne, does that help? I said I'd keep the Eglu for the hospital but it seems silly now, I have a big enough run to set up something else if we needed too or the shed, or spare room In a pet crate or cat box of course It's the complete set up now, it's 3 years since I contacted Jane (march 14th) and I've worked with her and officially for BHWT for 2 years in March 2008. It's just time If it's right Anne it'll happen. BBx
Egluntyne
I can feel a trip to Haslingden coming on. I think that is my nearest centre. I'll wait for the better weather. The Eglu is a Mark 1. I know the advice re numbers in a Mark 1.....but given the space they have been used to do you think I could reasonably keep 3 in it, with a bit of free ranging? Moonie
*cough* I've um just emailed about 3 too! They sent an automatic reply to say that they were really busy due to the Jamie Oliver programme, so I look forward to hearing from them soon. Anyone know when the next rescue in Essex is? No idea sorry. We are all really busy, I'm lucky I'm just getting the enquiry emails about foods and helpful emails, or have calls to make and emails to send. The other rescue co-ords have taken so many calls about re homing since Jamie aired. They will get to you Moonie and well done you Friday's explosion of publicity softened Mikey up to the new girls, as people will expect me to have some and he does have a soft spot for them too BBx
Guest
that's brilliant news, there won't be a single girl left needing a home. I always wondered if there were any girls left over after the rescues or if the BHWT were always oversubscribed. Do you know the answer Buffie? BBx oh that's so nice to hear. Hopefully, in future, there will be fewer and fewer battery hens to re-home, if you know what I mean! You'll have to start re-homing spent free range hens instead.
