Becka
I'm having a major decluttering binge and general overhaul of stuff in the house. I mean stuff with a sort of purpose but not everyday useful purpose. When it comes to magazines, I really become stuck as they don't really fulfill a particular purpose but I feel if I recycled them I would suddenly find a use for them! I have a few years worth of Country Smallholding, Grow Your Own and Delicious as well as my latest interest Olive! I do regard them a reference material but they are so bulky to store and can be a bit on the untidy side. Does anyone have any great storage solutions? Snowy
I love magazines and hang onto them as long as I can, or did until recently. Now I feel we have all the reference material we need at our fingertips on the web, so they are just clutter. I freecycled about 20 copies of Country Living magazine that had been cluttering up the lounge for months. I am guilty of having 3 boxes of old nursing magazines sat in the loft "in case I need to refer to them again". I haven't looked at them in over 5 years so they are going next! Egluntyne
There is often a market for that sort of thing on Ebay.
Cinnamon
I love magazines too, but am really ruthless when it comes to getting rid of them. As I am reading,I mark any intereting bits (usually recipes) then when I have finished I rip them out & put them in a file,or my recipe folder, then recycle the mag My old Empires go straight to little bro,who is on a tight budjet. Its the only was I can justify buying new ones again the following month
Popcorn
I do the same Sarah - cut out and keep the interesting bits and recycle the rest. It is hard as I think "I'll keep that mag for reference purposes" - we've always got a pile of old stuff cluttering up the livingroom. Snowy's right though - the internet is all the magazine you need these days. Darren has thousands (I'm not joking) of old music papers dating back to 1980 stored in the loft. He never looks at them, they just get moved about the loft. I guess they've become sentimental now. Maybe he's hoping to leave them to Stefan in his will! Stefan's future wife will love that! Goosey Lucy
I usually pass mine on to the doctor's and dentist's surgeries. At least I have someting to read the next time I'm in
Popcorn
yes, I used to do that too GL, until our surgery moved to a new build and now they won't have them! Madness really, as you always have to wait and end up reading the leaflets - agin! they've got some really silly policies up there now - that's w hole new thread altogether I think
Egluntyne
You can always cut the articles that appeal to you out and file them and recycle the mags.
chickenanne
I don't buy them often and tend to hang onto them for ages - but usually pass them on to friends when I remember to ahve a clear-out! Failing that, the doctors surgery gets them.
Tessa the Duchess
It might be worth looking in Ikea for storage solutions, some of their stuff is quite good and cheap too. Or, you could maybe see if you can score a small filing cabinet on Freecycle, which would neaten them all up. I don't buy magazines, although I was given a sub to Practical Poultry for Christmas those I 'will' keep for reference A neighbour gives us piles of New Scientist, which, when we have finished with them go like hot cakes on Freecycle.
