Cate in NZ
We bought some of those for MIL as a stocking filler this Christmas, she's getting a bit arthriticky in her knees and finds bending down to plug sockets a bit difficult. If I remember right we got 4 for around £12.50, from Aldi, one of their weekly special deals. She's found them very useful.

Tessa the Duchess
Sorry to sound thick but are these power sockets to replace existing ones? or is it a remote control to turn off existing power sockets? Tessa
Cate in NZ
I can only describe the ones we bought for MIL, I'm kind of assuming that the ones Clare's mentioned are similar. But essentially they're like an adaptor that you plug into the existing socket which has a conventional plug socket and a little infra-red light thingy at the top of it. When MIL waves her remote control at the plug socket it switches itself on or off accordingly, so that she doesn't need to bend down to flick the switch on the original socket. If that makes sense
The Dogmother
That sounds like them Kate.
Goosey Lucy
We've got some of these. One had the Christmas tree lights plugged into it, YS stuill believes he has magic in his fingers as whenever he waggled them at the tree and said 'Abracadabra!' they would turn on/off. It was hilarious (but only worked if he'd eaten his breakfast/lunch/dinner to recharge his magic powers )
The Dogmother
It was hilarious (but only worked if he'd eaten his breakfast/lunch/dinner to recharge his magic powers ) Awww, bless him! My dad used to do that with Rosie and his car remote key - when she said 'hello car' the lights used to flash Nowt wrong with a bit of magic. Guest
I've been buying these on Ebay and putting them around the house - I was paying 16 inc postage for 3. The ones I bought have different channels though and you can put up to 5 sockets to work on one remote - I couldn't be interfering with the washing machine in Mums house when I turned the telly off in mine! The Dogmother
I had a quick peek in the box last night and there appears to be 4 channels on the remote. TBH, I don't need it for much.

The Dogmother
Pengy, can you answer a question? Do the actual units use any power? Ok, so they turn the PC or whatever off at the socket, but surely the actual remote controlled socket must use some power I'll have to get my power meter out and measure it.
