Ain't Nobody Here
You're the second person to have found a lost chicken this week . Have a read of this post. Finders keepers I reckon (unless the owner claims it) .
Egluntyne
Are you certain that someone hasn't dumped a cockerel on you? There's a lot of it about. Welcome to the forum.

It actually looks a lot like your avatar. Will have to do tomorrow. Its not mine I swear!!! If it looks like the one in my avatar, she/he could be a blue/green egg layer Does it have a little hair-do? Does it have any injuries or problems health wise? It has been known for people to drop chickens off if they are ill and need treatment, then steal them back once they have been treated . xx

Good lord! Now I have heard it all! I'm not clever enough to think of doing that. I know Awful isn't it? I hear about it on the Practical poultry website, they do the same with horses that need treatment. And cockerels that have been injoured in cock-fighting, once treated, they just steal them back . xx

Lewis
Here are the pictures of Gertrude sitting on top of the guinea pig hutch: All that I can see wrong with her is scaly feet which i have been covering with Vaseline + Vegetable Oil to smother the mites. A better copy of the picture here : Gertrude

smudgley
she's lovely. Good hair too. She looks like an older lady to me (but just guessing)
Egluntyne
She looks a bit like a Heritage Skyline. You might have some blue eggs. What colour are her earlobes?
Lewis
They are a bluey silvery colour. Is there a good way to tell how old she is
smudgley
They are a bluey silvery colour. Is there a good way to tell how old she is Well I think scaley legs are a sign of old age, but I'm no expert. She just looks a bit old in her picture to me. is she friendly? Lewis
When I first found her she was terrified and ran to the covered end of the run. She is getting a lot better now though. She is starting to settle in and become a little more friendly.
Egluntyne
They are a bluey silvery colour. Is there a good way to tell how old she is No...but it can be an indicator of what color eggs they might lay. Sounds as if you might be lucky there. But why would someone abandon a blue egg layer. Lewis
ITS OFFICIAL. GERTY HAS BEEN REHOMED!! My Aunties OH knows someone who lives on my road who keeps chickens, after a phone call her owner was established!! Gertrude was a she afterall!! She lives with A Rhode Island Red, A Pekin Bantam and A White Sussex - from the farm that I work at, which means she is related to my chicken Babs!!! Its a small world I feel better now as her owners thought that the cat had got her. She has 2 little children to play with aswell. They haven't had her for very long so I showed them how to clip her + her friends wings + about vaseline/oil on scaly feet. I also offered to look after them if they ever go on holiday. Lewis
I popped a letter in the owners' letter box a few weeks ago asking how the chooks were and offering to look after them if the owners go on holiday and they phoned today. They popped round to see Theodore and Matilda. Gerty the chicken I found has started laying, and she does lay blue eggs! The Light Sussex they bought with Gerty turned out to be a rooster. The farm which sold it to them will not have it back. I can hear it if I am out in the garen during the day, but their neighbours the other side of us have been complaining about the noise he is making. I suggested blocking off the windows of his coop, or restricting head height. I'm sure "Ooops, word censored!"ody will, but if anybody was looking for a Light Sussex Rooster, you are welcome to him!!
