Laura007
i went to the potato day in nottingham yesterday, i got all my spuds that i wanted and came away quite excited. all was well apart from a very annoying chap who was stood next to me. the person he was with asked him to get a couple of pink fir spud. his response was " im not getting those pretencious things" like a red rag to bull.................................................... "could you please tell me how a potato that grows in the earth is pretencious?" was my reply. he scurried away. i know things become fashionable for a year or so, but its not like its rocket leaf or baby pea sprouts, its a spud for crying out loud. i went and bought some. Ain't Nobody Here
Oh, you've got to watch out for those pink fir spuds. They're always lording it over the mere mortal spuds. They think they're so clever and potatoey - and pink. Pah! What a moron that guy was - I'm glad you bought some so their little feelings weren't hurt . little chickadee
they look yummy actually - I've been thinking about getting some, but now I know they're pretencious, I may have to think again - wouldn't want the rest of the allotment to get sniffy! Egluntyne
Good for you! He is probably one of those who objects to Eglus too. You will have some delicious salads to look forward to. He will probably be happy with a plate of chips. You will enjoy growing and eating them.

snowcloud
You would have thought that people would be cheerful about being at such events with like minded people rather than being scornful about such a simple pleasure as a choice of potato! Good for you for saying something. As for the people that look down on Eglu's, I live in a pretty rural area and most people, even the local farmers and woodsmen think it is interesting and even fun, but I have come across a few people that look down their noses at them. I can't understand why - they are not a cheap alternative, nor ugly, they don't provide substandard housing for the birds, or that the typical eglu owner mistreat the birds... what is their problem? Thanks goodness there are only a few anti-eglu s"Ooops, word censored!"s out there...

chickencam
Pink fir apple are a delicious variety, they taste fantastic scrubed and cut in half and roasted with other root veg. They are also a very old variety so how can they be pretentious
Eyren
I can't understand why - they are not a cheap alternative, nor ugly, they don't provide substandard housing for the birds, or that the typical eglu owner mistreat the birds... what is their problem? I think that some people think that if you're going "green", you have to have everything utterly traditional and biodegradable, including using wooden hen-houses - regardless of the fact that they are impossible to keep clean and sweet-smelling. Besides, eglus are made from recyclable plastics, so it's not like they have to end up as landfill. If everyone were that Luddite, we'd still be killing mammoths with flint spears!
