One Man Banned
Ok, a small suggestion. There's clearly a demand on here for the Chuk-Tux, and some of us can't knit. Would anyone mind making some for those that would like one, for a donation to the BHWT? A xx

little chickadee
My mother in law has said that she will knit some too. Anyone else want any? I have also had loads of people Pm me for the pattern and one has said that she is going to knit jumpers for other people's ex-batts. I'll happily coordinate if people want to pm me, or just put a post on this thread (It might get lost though as the board is moving so quickly now!) little chickadee
I've had some people wanting jumpers who can't knit. Would anyone else like to help out?

Egluntyne
I bought my wool yesterday!
Olly
I'm about halfway through my first one - got a vile cold and left work at lunchtime, so I've spent the afternoon and evening on the sofa, catching up on stuff I've recorded and not got round to watching, and knitting like crazy. Since it's about 15 years since I picked up a pair of needles, I'm quite pleased although it doesn't look as neat as little chickadee's one! I've concluded that I'm quite a slow knitter, as I'm only halfway and it's probably taken six hours so far. Still, I am really enjoying knitting again - the cat is loving it too, as he had ages on my lap (once we'd reached an agreement about him sucking the wool), and I keep thinking of those poor shivery hens who are going to be wearing my handiwork! I'm sure they won't mind a few uneven bits.
MedusA
I'm going to have a go with the pattern. I'm also sending a copy to my mum, who is a brilliant knitter (does designer stuff), to see if she'd be willing to do some too. She loves my girls' eggs, and cares about animal welfare, so I don't see why not.
Couperwife
what colours are people making their jumpers??? mines like a speckldy seagreen colour. looks rather posh im doing this one all one colour so I dont have to worry about anything but the pattern for the first one. maybe number 2 will have different bits in it cathy x
Olly
I'm doing stripes ... bearing in mind that batts are usually similar colour to the Omlet gingernut, I thought I'd do brown, orange and yellow so they would tone in and the other chickens wouldn't laugh at them. Now I'm wishing I'd gone for something more jolly though - primary colours. I will be knitting more than one, though, so there's a chance to experiment! Egluntyne
I bought pastels ( on offer!)...lavender, pink and blue.

Fair point, Olly - birds have even better colour vision than humans, as they can see ultraviolet as well as "visible" wavelengths!
ali-s
I have finished the first 20 rows of the rib. My jumper is knitted in a shocking, and a mean a shocking pink colour the wool and needles I am using were my secret santa present from work this year. The wool is very bright and I didn't know what on earth I could knit it into When the jumper is finished I am going to take into work to see if anyone can guess what it is If anyone wants the finished jumper I will enclose the fitting instructions at the end of the pattern. Olly
Wow that is bright - I feel mine is a bit dull, now. I think we should all post pics when they're finished! I hadn't thought about the fact that chickens can see colour, though - the other chooks might need sunglasses when they see ali's!
The Dogmother
This is brilliant, and I am wondering whether we ought to send details of the pattern to Jane Howarth at the BHWT, she might like to get some volunteers knitting them for all the cold weather rescuees. I shall point Buffie at the thread.
Louise
I started one last night in bright red I only managed a paltry ten rows but its a start The plan tonight is to do another ten I am toying with the idea of making the collar and warming flap in charcoal grey as a contrast - what do you think
