clucky1
I have just 'switched off' - can someone tell me when to 'switch-on' again.
Eyren
Sounds like fun! But I'm not entirely certain what can be turned off. Our LCD TV doesn't have a power switch, and unplugging it just isn't practical on a daily basis (socket is difficult to access owing to bookshelves) - and the cable TV box takes forever to boot up if you switch it off. I can probably find a few things round the house, though - like the laser printer and the hifi. Our combined bill for gas+electricity is currently only half the national average, but with the recent 15% rise from Scottish Power (who are our suppliers via Sainsburys), I think I can persuade the DH that turning off his printer is sensible! Olly
If you've got inaccessible sockets, try getting a remote control adapter - there are quite a few on the market. I bought an Owl electricity monitor in January, and that has really encouraged me to turn things off - here is a link to the thread about this, on Green Thinking, and there were a few other energy saving ideas from Omleteers. I have all my computer equipment plugged into an adapter, and I turn that off every time, and I always turn the TV off at the wall. However as you say, there are some things which it isn't practical to turn off every time because of timers or re-booting and so on.

Richard
I was on holiday earlier this week - had a few days in Wales. We went to the Centre for alternative technology (CAT) near Machynlleth. llynnchwichlllynichmynich llynimyn wych argolllynch. that was the welsh version (cue hate mail from Omleteers in Wales). I like Wales, honest. But why do they put all their flipping signs in two languages? I'd be happy if they were just in Welsh. You don't go to France and get the signs in French and English do you? I reckon its just to increase the profits of the sign makers. And when you come to a bend in the road it says Araf (or something like that) and slow. OK OK - after I've seen it a couple of times I know that araf means slow. You don't have to paint it all over the road each time. Why not just give me a handout when I cross the border - then you could save a fortune in paint and have smaller road signs. Anyway CAT was great. And I've just bought a 1200 litre rainwater butt. £50 delivery charge!!!!
fairy&cake
Did you go near Dollegau? I used to live there with Nick before he died. Its the most wonderful place. Awww how i miss it! His house was just beautiful.
Eyren
If you've got inaccessible sockets, try getting a remote control adapter - there are quite a few on the market. Oooh, I hadn't heard of those! I'll have to see if any of our sockets have a suitable combination of devices attached, or if they can be rearranged to suit...
