dogs and chickens
Hi There, I hope no one minds me asking (well you don't have to tell me). I have noticed on here several people talk about selling their eggs. If we get enough it was something we had thought we would do. However I have no idea what we would charge! Sainsburys charges about £2 per 1/2 doz for large eggs, where as our local farm shop sells them for £1.60 per 1/2 doz and £3 per doz! What do others do? also: We are getting the hybrids and from Omlet, do they lay about 6 eggs per week or am I totally wrong in thinking that? Thank you
Egluntyne
The will lay about that in their first year and then it will tail off slightly as they get older. Omleteers seem to charge between £1.20 and £1.50 per half doz.
Shirl
How about for bantam eggs? Should we sell them 2 large eggs & 2 bantams or just 4 bantam eggs?
clucky1
My hubby sells our eggs at work (if I don't manage to hide them first) He sells them for £1.50 for 6. Selling eggs is great although I am finding it is a bit of a slippery slope as we hardly get to see the eggs now. So I am going to buy more chickens and ration my hubby! dogs and chickens
Does it depend on the size of your eggs when you sell them at £1.50 for 6 or is it just as they come big or small? I can understand you being fed up with your hubby taking all the eggs to work I would be too! Thanks for the replies everyone
Christian
I only started selling my eggs a few weeks ago (after nearly 2 years of giving them away). My Dad pops over once a week and collects 4 boxes. He sells them for £1.30 a box (6 eggs). I have no idea why its £1.30 Thats the price he told his colleagues. The money goes in a money box (chicken shaped of course) and I use it to pay for their feed. I can't keep up with demand for them. One lady asked for a definite 12 eggs a week, every week. dogs and chickens
Maybe I should get more chickens then! Seeing as I already have had several requests, and that's without even asking if people would want to buy them!!!! I was thinking the same as you, that selling them would help towards their food each week
clucky1
Does it depend on the size of your eggs when you sell them at £1.50 for 6 or is it just as they come big or small? Hubby sells them for this regardless of size. I must admit our chooks are about 8 months old now and there eggs are all of a similar size now.
