I have tried Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers and Slimming World and they have been ok, but not brilliant, for me. I liked the WW diet and loved the recipe books but the meetings weren't that great for me. The SW meetings I attended were awful, really patronising an annoying!

In October I joined Rosemary Conley and I find it brilliant. I like the no-nonsense diet, just got to stick to a calories allowance and everything low-fat, but like Pengy mentioned the best bit is the exercise.

I pay £21 a month for unlimited meetings, I weigh in once a week and then try and attend two extra exercise sessions. My £21 also includes the Rosemary Conley magazine, every month or two.

So far I have lost 30lbs, however I need to lose about the same again!

Good luck to everyone, we should try and "egg" each other on! (Groan at bad pun! :D )

Cheers

alex :)

I'm interested to hear that some GP's have referred you to WW or the gym. Do you think this is widely available? I wonder if my GP would be offer this service? - it may be worth a visit to him to find out.

It's worth asking, Bassett - you just need to conquer the

I'm in!

I'm 5 feet nothing & am about 8lbs over the recommended healthy weight for someone of my height. Ideally I'd like to drop 1.5 stone before my hols, but I know that is unrealistic & I will only set myself up for disappointment, so I'm going for one stone in 2 months. Anything more will be a bonus- I'll go for a 1.5 stone weight loss for the summer instead.

A couple of years ago I went to RC & dropped to 7stone 11lb, which was fab, but I need motivation to keep the weight off. I do enjoy the feeling of being fit, & so I just need encouragement too.

I'm just dong my own diet & exercise routine, & am looking forward to this journey with you all.

Good luck Jules - a stone in 2 months sounds very achievable (I usually set stupidly unrealistic goals!)

lol @ chelsea working out while hubby trying to sleep. I'd be interested to know what the dvd is like as I thought she looks great now.

cheers

:? .......I feel concerned about these targets. Weight loss needs to be slow & steady if you want to achieve a healthy, effective metabolism and good long term results.

A couple of pounds a month is plenty, esp. if the starting weight is not far above target. A stone in 2 months is a crash diet...really doesn't stay off & can be dangerous.

Plus, Jules...I don't understand your post in only being 7lbs overweight yet wanting to lose more....um, .... :?:?

Anyway, best wishes to everyone with their healthy plans, it really helps to encourage each other. :D:D

I don't think my weight loss was only from Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers.

I was also using a pedometer from fitbug (www.fitbug.com/uk). They provide the pedometer and weekly activity targets so that I gradually increased my activity level until I was walking between 15k and 20k steps per day - quite a lifestyle change for me as I'm normally fairly lazy.

My OH isn't dieting at all but is aiming to walk 10k steps per day and so far he has dropped almost a stone which is amazing as he's addicted to biscuits..

I like the sound of fitbug.com. Do you recommend it?

I have found that my fitness has improved since having the chooks because I have tended to be outdoors more even in the winter. Another thing I do when I am in the house on my own is put some music on and dance around while I am doing my jobs, this is great for anyone who doesn't like excercise but likes music.

I am hoping to be able to shift some weight now that I have had my underactive thyroid diagnosed :D and have started treatment, because it has been puzzling me for a while why I can't shift any despite being fitter and eating an ok diet. I am just on the borderline between ok and overweight, but I was really skinny and fit in my youth so middleaged spread has been hard to take :(

I agree Sheila.

At Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers ,which I prefer to think of as a healthy eating plan rather than a diet, they recommend you lose no more than 1-2lb a week, apart from week 1 when weight loss can oftern be more.

In fact if you are losing more than this they will query your eating & exersice habits........

Of course for a bigger gal like me ,who has lots of weight to go,it can seem like an unacheivable goal. But I would rather be slow & staedy,& be healthy & keep the weight off by eating properly.

You need to get it right in your head, know its not a quick fix but a long term plan.

Sarah, I thought I noticed some weight loss in your face on the picture you have up on FB at the moment.

I found WW fab. Before I had Stefan I lost three stone in about 9 months (around 6-7lbs a month, with some weeks at no weightloss at all) just by following the diet and taking moderate exercise - walking mainly with a bit of swimming and I did do a bit of light jogging for a time too when I felt the urge. It all helped with the points and weight loss.

After Stefan I piled it all back on and now i'm pregnant again not having lost any of the weight I gained with Stefan so it's going to be doubly hard work for me when I rejoin WW later this year.

I used to concentrate on 7lbs at a time, otherwise I got a bit disheartened thinking about it in one weighty lump.

You'll be slimmer of the year by then, you see

I was lucky when I had DS that he took to breastfeeding with a will and the weight fell off me, but when YD was born and I thought the same thing would happen again, having eaten throughout pregnancy accordingly, she was a small baby with a small apetite and it didn't work and things have never been the same since

Every time I've joined a slimming club/diet class, and believe me I have tried them all over the years, I've lost weight to begin with ... and then put it back on again, and more.

I decided a couple of years ago that I wasn't going to bother any more, and I think my relationship with food is now a lot healthier, and I enjoy it much more. I am still overweight, though, and I've put on weight over the last year (I think this is possibly connected with my deteriorating thyroid - and I feel too tired to exercise much, which doesn't help.)

Eyren, I'm quite interested in the FatLoss4Idiots programme, I have been looking up reviews on the web. Did you download it from that site or is there a UK one, and has it worked for you? I swore I would never try another diet, but I am just eBaying a lot of clothes that don't fit any more, and it's made me realise how much weight I've put on.

Sheila the healthy weight range for me is from 7 stone 2 to 9 stone 2 -I weigh 9 stone 10

For me, being short with short legs 8 stone in weight is ideal. I got down to 7 stone 11 1/2 lbs 18 months ago & felt great, but bad eating habits came back & the weight came back on. If I can hover below 8stone 5lbs I'll be really chuffed- both for the way I look & the way I feel at that weight.

I'll also fit into my work uniform quite nicley, & my summer clothes which at the moment I can't get into.
