Cinnamon
Are there any other forum members out there who go to Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers? I am on a GP referral schemes, where I get free sessions, have been going for 4 weeks & have lost 10lbs I thought it might be good to get together on here & give each other a bit of support. Unlike other diets I have tried where I have to sometimes miss out on some foods,I can eat whatever I like in moderation, & its working really well for me so far. I do have a long, long way to go before I am anywhere near 'slim' again, but for the moment I am enjoying the diet & enjoying life
chelsea
im doing weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers online for £9 a month. I've lost a stone in 5 weeks, so not too bad but its not happening quick enough for me! I did weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers and slimming world and the cambridge diet years ago, but think weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers works best for me because I only have to worry about how many points im eating and i can occasionally have a treat. Im going more down the exercise route to shift my flab, my body really responds to exercise so I have bought an exercise DVD to do at home and im also going to buy a cross trainer. This time of year is a nice time to diet because we have the upcoming summer so we can enjoy salads and bbq's and stuff
Cinnamon
Urrgggggghhhhhh - I hate & loath exercise I do the online thing too - its good, isn't it. I figured that as I was getting the meetings for free then £9 a month for the tracker tools was a good deal A stone in 5 weeks is great. I am so looking forward to my first stone! I think that slow & steady is a much better plan when it comes to weight loss,& you have more chance of actually keeping it off that way. I have actually managed to list some of my clothes that are too big now on eBay this week, which was a nice thing to be able to do. I have a grotty cold this week, so I haven't been out & about in the garden as much as usual,so we shall see if that affects my weight loss for the week. Egluntyne
I tried it last year. Didn't lose any weight at all despite trying hard so abandoned it. The woman who ran the group became a nuisance, ringing me at awkward times and pestering the life out of me. She got told in the end after a few weeks of polite avoidance tactics. Not a happy experience for me. If it works for you....fantastic.
chelsea
yes I have noticed a lot of my clothes are getting too baggy! I agree slow and steady and I think you enjoy it more when you are not starving or depriving yourself. I tend to get bored easily too, so I have to keep thinking up new recipes or alternating my food choices. I LOVE exercise once I get into it. Believe it or not I used to do 5 exercise classes a week before I got married and I even went to 2 aqua aerobics classes in one night - I became addicted! After years of being happily married, with a hubby who can eat shed loads without putting on an ounce and sat on my bum a lot I really have piled on the pounds. We shall get there though Sarah!! Nicola H
I am thinking of joining the online Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers I need to lose 20 lbs, I don't fancy going to the meetings, I have been wondering if the online thing is any good..............But if you 2 have lost so much weight on it then I think I will join, hubby needs to lose 4 stone so we can help each other................. Cinnamon
I like the online tools Nicola, as you can add you foods & really keep an eye on what you are eating. it automatically deducts your points & you can work out the points value of any food. I tend to work out my main meals a week in advance, log them in,then I can play with whatever points I have left for the day. It also means I can have a glass of wine or a G&T in the evening,if I want I can eat out too - there is a brilliant eating out booklet which seems to list foods from every place I have ever heard of. We were going to Zizzi for Mothers day (now cancelled due to my sinus thing), & I knew just what to order & what points I would have left for a small bite in the evening. I find the online tracker tools work really well & would recommend them to anyone
Couperwife
I'm not doing Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers, doing slimming world. I'm not doing well at the moment, not really on track. I think its a lovely idea as a "support thing" though. I have loads of recipe books for slimming world - im sure that they are easily converted to Weighwatchers if you pick the right things cathy x
Eyren
I'm not really a "group activity" sort of person, and I hate exercise, so I'm trying a diet with the uninspiring name of "FatLoss4Idiots" It's really aimed at convenience-food-gobbling Americans, but if you're sensible and have some idea how to cook imaginatively, you can turn its rather spartan regime into something enjoyable. Obviously you don't lose weight as quickly if, e.g., you put muesli and honey on your natural yogurt, but it's a lot nicer! The diet is basically high-protein, but unlike Atkins it includes a sensible level of carbs (you can eat fruit, whole grains, and even potatoes in moderation), and you get three days off at the end of each fortnight to eat what you like (within sensible limits). What I like about it is that: a) there's no calorie or points counting - you just eat as much as you want of the allotted food type for that meal until you are sated but not stuffed full b) the four regular meals a day (well, three meals and a substantial snack) keep me from feeling too hungry c) the emphasis on lots of fresh fruit and veg and lean protein means I end up making my own packed lunches a lot more (the salads at work tend to be carb-heavy since it makes them cheaper), which means I don't have to go into the campus cafe and be tempted by their jacket potatoes and homemade shortbread! So far (since the beginning of Lent) I have lost five pounds - it was half a stone until about Wednesday but then I had a nasty attack of chocolate cravings and went a bit mad
Nicola H
I like the online tools Nicola, as you can add you foods & really keep an eye on what you are eating. Thanks for that Sarah I like the idea of keeping track of what I eat and hubby has said he will join in with me so I am off to sign up........... Egluntyne
I like the sound of your diet Eyren. Does it cater for vegetarians? Is it costly?
Snowy
Shame you had a bad experience with weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers Egluntine, I have a friend it didn't work for either But generally, it is a very good diet and the points system helps you to eat in moderation. Slow and steady is definitely the best way to lose it and you can give it a real boost if you exercise as well. The online one is great! I used weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers prior to having the boys and lost over 3 stone. Then promptly got pregnant It is important to change your eating habits afterwards though, otherwise it does all go back on again, it will with any diet. 2 children later and I'm back to where I started
WitchHazel
I followed the Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers diet a couple of years ago, and I lost 45lb (3 stone 3lb). I didn't join a class; a friend of mine was going, and I listened to hwatch she said about it all, then I just bought the opints book online. I found it really easy to follow. It took me about 40 weeks to lose all the weight, I kept the weight off for ages, then went through a really stressful time at work, and started to comfort eat. I put back on about a stone and a half. I've jyst started following it again, as I really need to shift it, and I've lost 9lb in 4 weeks. I also joined my local Curves gym. I hate exercise and loathed the idea of going to a gym, but I really needed to do something, as I wansted to be able to eat lots of home made ice cream etc without piling on weight. Eventually I made an appointment to go and have a look, and I decided to give it a go. The gym is fantastic, costs me £29 a month and they will weigh and measure me as often as I want. They are very friendly, and I would thoroughly recommend them to anone who doesn't like the idea of a gym. Most weeks I go three times (half an hour each time), but some weeks I only get there once or twice.
Scooby
Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers worked for me, I started Aug 06 purely because I didn't want to be fat for my wedding Jan 07. Lost 17 pounds and was exactly 10 stone on my wedding day. Kept on it after that and lost another stone. Now I watch my points through the week but eat whatever I want on weekends to maintain my weight. Must admit, even though I was always into exercise I'm very addicted to it now, swim a mile each morning, jog 18km each week plus do 3 step classes. Since I had my horse riding accident I haven't been able to do any exercise at all, but I've still managed to maintain my weight so I'm very pleased about that. It's definately all about a change for life, not just a diet.
Chickpea
I did weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers for a year or so but didn't really work for me, couldn't deal with the whole keeping track of points thing! Am now going to Slimming World and the weight is coming of slowly but surely, lost a stone since June, so am happy with that so far! They also have an online thingy which is really good! Hurrah for everyone on their weight loss journey!
ajm200
I lost over 25lbs doing weighwatchers online from new year until mid-Feb. I found it really easy and was struggling to use up all of my points. I've stopped for now though as I recently found out I'm pregnant. I guess I'll have to start again in about a year

ajm200
I think it's due in October but I thought that last time and they moved the date back by two weeks at my scan. It's all very exciting!

Guest
I'd like to say well done to all of you. WW, Slimming World etc never worked for me - I found it too easy to cheat and I found the meetings patronising. Rosemary Conley worked better because of the exercise classes. One big barrier to dieting for me is that I am the worlds FUSSIEST eater. I'm vegitarian, dont eat fish, heave if potato is even slightly mashy etc. I think all the reasons above is why lighterlife is suiting me. Its astonishing not to feel hungry on 500 calories a day and its boring in its lack of varieties that I actually like. All I have now is a chocolate shake for brekky (hot), nut crunch or cranberry bar at morning break (although they've changed the manufaturer and they don't taste as good now), Veg soup for lunch and veg soup for dinner. Rather a boring diet really, I don't like the other soup flavours and the shakes are really too sweet for me. The thing that terrifies me is introducing food again, I'm not worried I'll go crazy, I think I've broken myself of some terrible snacking habits. But the first 3 days you have to eat just Protein, hmmm, not meat, not fish oh and I don't like tofu. I think I may manage to force down peeled prawns! I'm not going to say my current weight loss total. Suffice to say I went to Billericay today where I used to teach and 3 people who hadn't seen me since July literally did a double take when I said hello - I'm getting unrecognisable! Lesley
I'm on a GP referral to the loacl gym - I really didn't want to go - but when I started last October, I really surprised myself and enjoyed it. I was supposed to go twice a week for 12 weks but I couldn't go twice a week before Christmas and so am still going. I've lost 10lbs so far by excercising and just being careful what I eat. At the end of my 24 sessions, I can join the gym for half price, payable monthly and that also covers any excercise class and use of the pool. Before my knee injury, I used to swim three morning s a week so I'm looking forward to being able to swim again.
ajm200
I don't think my weight loss was only from Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers. I was also using a pedometer from fitbug (www.fitbug.com/uk). They provide the pedometer and weekly activity targets so that I gradually increased my activity level until I was walking between 15k and 20k steps per day - quite a lifestyle change for me as I'm normally fairly lazy. My OH isn't dieting at all but is aiming to walk 10k steps per day and so far he has dropped almost a stone which is amazing as he's addicted to biscuits.. Eyren
I like the sound of your diet Eyren. Does it cater for vegetarians? Is it costly? Well, the meat version probably isn't too cheap, especially if you're buying organic/free-range chicken like me! I'm probably saving money overall, though, because I'm not buying many meals at work, or convenience foods, and I've cut back severely on alcohol and chocolate as well (most of the time!). You can do it as a vegetarian, but some people find it a bit more monotonous. Because pulses count as carbs since they're generally quite starchy, most of your meals have to be based around tofu, cheese, yogurt, nuts, and of course eggs (assuming you include them as vegetarian food), whereas non-vegetarians can have all of those plus chicken, fish, seafood and even lean bacon. On the other hand, in the official diet, protein meals consist only of the given protein food with minimal seasoning (yuk!), whereas I add "calorie-free veg" liberally - salad, leafy greens, peppers, tomatoes and so on - and use tiny amounts of butter or extra virgin olive oil where appropriate
Egluntyne
I see. Thanks for that Eyren.
Clur
I've been toying with joining Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers as I need to lose 3 stone but didn't want to commit to classes as I never know what time I'll finish work. My husband also needs to lose a bit of weight (though he's not bothered), so online looks like it might be a good option. Thanks for starting this topic, nice to see I'm not the only one in this boat and it might give me a push in the right direction.....
