AnnieP
And, I once did a holiday cover for a manager at the west end of Edinburgh, only he forgot to point out that when you are sat in the office counting thecash, after the staff have gone, you can still here footsteps walking through the bar above....... Afraid I can dispel this one as OH had a similar experience. His parents owned a pub for 18 years and as a child he used to be frightened witless in the middle of the night, every night, when he used to hear somebody walking down the corridor that ran along the whole length of the pub upstairs. For months he never told of this fear to anyone, but one night his mum heard him crying (he would have been around 5), She came in and asked what the matter was. He told her that the ghost was about to walk down the corridor. She told him not to be so silly etc, but he was is such a state that she stayed with him and of course, sure enough, within about 15 minutes, it happened. Well naturally, she freaked out too, so they investigated.... . . . . . . Imagine a really hot and steamy pub, which has had dozens of people in all evening. Now imagine an empty pub, cooling rapidly.....floorboards have expanded in the heat and as the temperature cools they "pop" back into place, one by one, as they settle down. The effect? Each one creaking in turn and banging! Phew!!
Guest
Aaaaah, yes, but there is a HUGE difference between creaking floorboards (having worked in several old pubs, I have heard that too), and the sound of footsteps walking from one end of the bar to the front door! The first ever pub I worked in had the office in the celler under the pavement and staff were continually freaked out by the sound of footsteps, but it was, of course, just the noise of footsteps on the pavement! Tamsin
Great stories everyone. I have a story but it is rather long, here goes. When i was aged between 3 and 5 me and my family lived in a rather old house (i was only young so didnt know about spiritsand the house being old e.t.c.) but i have alot of memories and rerember being in the garden when my trycicle started going round me in circles but now one was on it,i can also rerember something shuting my hand in the door and after i could hear giggling. At night my room was very active ,i cant explain it but mentally i could see 2 children no older than 7,a young boy and girl that would sing "ring a ring a roses" (i could hear this), It wasnt till 3 years ago that i told my mum about this and she told me that when i was going to bed i use to get really upset and tell her that there was children in the room, and she thought i was trying to get out of going in my own bed and go in my mums (im 16 now). I have another experiance but i will write it later.
Martin B
Spooky! Maybe the children died of the Black Plague hence Ring-a-ring-of-roses! Please tell us the other story Tamsin!
Tamsin
Spooky! Maybe the children died of the Black Plague hence Ring-a-ring-of-roses! Please tell us the other story Tamsin! yes that was what my mum thought although that would have been prior to the house being built. Here is the other one..... It was about 3 years ago, when i was leading my horse down the track at the stables when my normally very sensible horse started snorting and insisted on turning back,i gave her a smack and told her to get on, and when she stopped in her tracks I looked up I saw a figure of a solidly built man dressed in white,( uniform) it was enough to creep me out and I ran with my horse back to the stables where my mum was mucking out, mum was saw me shaking and I tried to tell her what happed as i was trying to get my words out and my horse was still distressed, mum tried to give me a logical answear and said it was proberly a shaft of light(it was about 6am). I told the owner of the yard, she had never experienced anything and she was sceptical about things like that . However she was amazed when I described him as a army type person(im not sure how i knew this),she said the person that built the house was a colonel and had somethig to do with the Army and it is in the records of the house that the colnols wife commited suicide on the old wooden stair case that is still there, she also told me that she spoke to a neighbour and they told her that 1 of the previous occupants had someone that knew about spirits to visit the house (sorry dont know the correct tittle) but they left some sort of paper with diagrams on it and they said it would keep them 'level' (dont know what that means) but the current owner chucked it when she moved in. A year later i had forgotten about it and had a job at the stabes leading horses to their field. I had led a horse out and as I turned round I saw a solid figure watching me, he was siting on the grassy bank opposite the gate, he stayed sitting as i struggled to shut the gate as i was keeping my eyes on him, I ran past him to tell my mum again. The daughther of the current owner that is in her late 20s told me that when she was about my age she has seen him and described him the same as me, she also used to play the ouija board there and lot of things/spirits talked to her (i wouldnt reccomend anyone playing this as alot of people have said they do work and are vey dangerous as they might be like a invitation to let them in our world). A few days later I mentioned my odd experience to a young man who kept his horse there and he told me that he had seen somone in the horse field stroking his horse and he walked across to see who it was only to find that it was a man in a white uniform who then vanished. A little while later I moved my horses to a new yard but its now 2 years on In going back. On sunday i was getting my stable ready, painting it with a friend when a thing went past us very swiftly. It was odd and I did not mention it untill my friend said 'did you feel that', she described what she had seen, which was a glimpse of what seemed to be like a black cloak that swished past. My mum sayd its the live ones youve got to worry about but maybe the colonel is still keeping an eye on the place or mourning for his wife. I always try to look for a logical answer to things however having seen these odd things I am baffled. Perhaps I should contact Derek Acora, 'Sam are you there'?.
