BERTIE MCSQUIRTY
had the omlet netting a few weeks - ever since we have been using it one of the chooks keeps escaping. anyway after receiving tips on here of how to secure the netting more firmly (using tent pegs etc). i have discovered the way in which she is getting through by forcing her way through the middle of the netting!!! now snowbell is no small chicken - how she is getting through is amazing to see (will try and photograph her doing it and post on here)! the netting is intact ie no breaks etc and the escape route is not in the same place. any suggestions? and anyone got any better suggestions

BERTIE MCSQUIRTY
Give her more food! theres plenty of food - beside that i think that she is escaping because of the cock crowing across the road - she goes barmy and gets herself out
Roxanne
i have discovered the way in which she is getting through by forcing her way through the middle of the netting!!! Not quite sure what you mean, but where the two ends meet, I had to strap the poles together at the middle and top to prevent break outs by the chickens and break ins by the doogs. At ground level I slightly overlapped the neting by a few inches and secured it with the red screw in pegs. The straps I use are the small tree type ones that have a band in the middle so one side is always secured to one pole and does up against the other pole. Hope this makes sense. (Imagine a tree and a stake and the band holding them together).
ajm200
Mine escape regularly too. At first three could get through the netting but after lots of food they've fattened up a bit and now there's just one regular offender. If your girls are new they should fatten up and soon be too big to get throught. I've got the added problem of breaks in the net at chicken height, something is chewing through it. I don't know if it's them or something else. Does anyone else have problems with things chewing through the netting? I haven't got any spare netting as an human intruder in our garden got tangled in the other half and shredded it with a knife
Olly
My chickens have only ever got UNDER the netting. However last year my very small Cornish Rex cat panicked, and managed to squeeze completely through one side of the circle of net, and then got stuck in the other side trying to escape. I refused to cut it ( not at that price!) and spent ages calming her down and pulling it over her. Amazingly, the netting looked perfect afterwards, no stretched bits or breaks, so I can believe a small chicken could get through it. Sadly Cassie the Cornish Rex is no longer with us, and my fat tabby would hardly get a leg through, never mind his whole body!
