Phosphorus
Here is picture of progress so far - not much but we have painted the frame http://club.omlet.co.uk/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=26362 Not sure whether above link will work or not - photobucket keeps crashing on me for resizing. Not much more to do today as we have snow Maybe later.
Jane 20
Looking v impressive! what size is it?
Phosphorus
Per DH sitting beside me and having hysterics at all my comments on this forum it is 3m by 4m. Trying to convince him that 6 chooks might be a bit lost and lonely in all that space and a cube Oh he has just said that the latest Practical Poultry article says that 8 chooks should have 20 m by 20m - what a joke
Ain't Nobody Here
That looks like a massive run . It'll be brilliant .
meezers
Ooh, it looks great ! I wanted a blue run but I wasn't allowed to paint mine ( well, I could have, but the frame is on the inside and the mesh was put on straight away, so I wasn't given chance )
Rona
That will look fab when you get your purple cube on Wednesday. Are your chickens coming with the cube or are you getting them later on?

Are your chickens coming with the cube or are you getting them later on? Not sure yet when we are getting the chickens - probably the weekend of the 26th April, unless the breeder will let us pick up during the week before Still seems like an age away. Cube will hopefully be coming early - not that it makes any difference I suppose - Omlet charged me on Friday so must be on the van DH is putting up the weldmesh - the snow has stopped for now
Stevie
Impressive size and it certainly looks substatially built! Your chooks will love it!
Shirl
Mine is the same area as yours and I think 6 chooks is about the max for that size run unless they get to free range every day. It looks great, I love the colour I'm quite jealous but I'm too lazy to paint mine
MedusA
What a fab looking run! I'm sure your chooks will be impressed, when they arrive.
Phosphorus
I think 6 chooks is about the max for that size run unless they get to free range every day. You are probably right - I keep hoping we could get in another 2 but.... 6 is probably more than enough The painting and tacking of the weldmesh is taking us ages - I wouldn't feel jealous at all. Think it might have been a lot easier to buy a ready made run - however we will feel that we have done this all ourselves so Two sides of mesh have had to go on the inside of the frame rather than the outside as we didn't have enough room on the outside to swing the hammer. I will have to put loads of tacks in to deter Mr Fox
Rona
I used a staple gun to attach the weldmesh to the run. Not a fancy electric one just the hand held ones that you can get in B&Q that take a variety of different sized staples. It was quick and easy to put a staple in every couple of inches, just needed to lean hard on it so they went right in.
MedusA
I used a staple gun too, but at corners and weak places I also used some of those U-shaped staples that you hammer in. No fox is getting to my girls again! No sir-ree!
Phosphorus
I have been hammering away with the U shaped nails this morning. Actually it is quite stress relieving Two sides of the run done, two to go and then just the roof ---- nearly there No sign of cube - I am probably mad: it won't come two days early
