MaxBaz
With only four girls (of which only one is laying) I certainly won't be a contender for this, but have noticed so many of you have 10-12+ girls. How many eggs do you collect each day on average? What do you do with them all. WHEN I get more than one a day I was thinking of bringing them into my office and having an honesty box (about £1 for 6?) and sending the proceeds to the Battery Chicken Charity. At this rate - it will be a while though...... Cathy
Egluntyne
I average 7-8 a day with my girls. I give the excess to neighbours, family and friends.
Cinnamon
I usually get 9-10, & have not had a 'full house' of 11 day as yet To be honest,I am drowning in eggs,& I am having to give a box away today on Freecycle
superjules
I've got 5 laying now, I get a full house at least half the time. I've just had a quick check and so far in April I have had 62 eggs! We eat most of them, the kids are crazy about eggs, particularly the bantam eggs, and I bake too. I have given 4 boxes of 4 away this month to people for birthdays. Once all 8 are laying I will start selling them at school, probably £1.20 for 6. My original plan was to give potential customers a box of 4 and tell them that if they want more I will be selling them at this price, but people have been approaching me asking to buy them as word is starting to get round (DS is finally getting interested in the chooks!) so I may not have to give away samples after all! It's lovely after going from having 2 hens, (only 1 of which was laying) and having to buy them from the supermarket because 6 a week was nowhere near enough. Snowy
I get at least 7 a day, often more from my 10 hens. I have several regular customers who wanted to place a regular order, any I take into work get snapped up, plus I bake a lot more than I used to! And with three sons, frittatas, poached eggs, scrambled eggs and eggy bread are always popular
Blackrocksrock
Having only 3 hens I have had a full house 3 times since Thursday but usually a 2 egg day then a 1 egg day before this so 3 eggs thurs, 1 frid , 3 sat, 1 sun 3 mon - this is just enough for us to use and give some away occasionally. I bake and eat them and they are fab.
BeckyBoo
We've got 13 hens but at the minute we normally only get about 7 -8 eggs a day. We did have a 12 egg day last year and quite a few 10 egg days. I sell our excess eggs plus I do a LOT of cooking then sell the results! hillfamily
I've got 7 girls and on average get 30 eggs a week Not bad seeing as they are all quite old girls now .........but I much prefer quality not quantity
Martin B
I would imagine that Lesley normally gets the most, but I do remember her getting only the odd egg at times even though she has over 20 chickens! I get 4 eggs per day from my 6, but I get about 12 eggs a day in total with an average of 6 quail eggs per day at the moment as well. chickencam
I have got 4 hens and I get about 25 eggs a week on average at the moment, but when we were away last week and they had nothing better to do they layed 27 only one short of the maximum of 28 which we could get. Janty
I have seventeen hens and get between six and nine eggs a day. However, the ex-batts don't really lay and most of my bantams aren't laying yet so I don't think that is too bad.
