WitchHazel
My Girls love to dust bathe. I have a large shallow tub trug, which is filled with equal quantitles of Woodash, playput sand and compost, with a handful of Aubiose and some Stalosan and Diatom in. When I got it, after reading about it on this board, I thought it was Far Too Big. But then I didn't know that my Girls would want to bathe together. They are in it all the time. I topped it up today and they jumped straight in. They were in there for AGES, showering themselves and each other, and then they sort of dozed off in it. And then one of them started PURRING. How weird is that?!
susanbb
Never weird. Just the sound of shear contentment. Love the pic
Gamebird
Fantastic picture. That really has spurred me on to getting my dustbath sorted. I've bought the playsand but it is very wet and I'm trying to dry it out a bit a time but the weather is not helping the process. Meanwhile they are dusting themselves in their Aubiose bedding. Sarah B
Bless em! They must love it in there So cute. Not heard one of mine purr but they have their mud dutbath under a bush Unfortunately one of my cats also uses it as a toilet sometimes

ajm200
What a lovely picture! Ours are too motivated by greed to remain in their dustbath for a photo call. They all come running as soon as the door opens

Laura & CTB
That is a fab photo!! I love it when the girls purr but it's usually reserved for a warm summer day when they're sunbathing.

druids57
Lovely photo - should be an advert for Omlet I think and earn you some royalties for more chickens x
WitchHazel
I'm amazed that so manyof you have heard your chickens purr too, I thought I had discovered something unusual! Hearing about your contented chickens has really made me smile this morning. Thanks for all your kind words, it's great to be able to share these things with people who are empathetic! I've bought the playsand but it is very wet and I'm trying to dry it out . My bag of sand was sodden when I got it. I just mixed mine with equal quantities of compost, wood ash, and then a couple of handfuls of Aubiose (plus some Stalosan and Diatom) and it dried out sufficiently for the Girls to use it. should be an advert for Omlet. Ooh, you've given me an idea. It should be an advert for Tubtrugs: I'll send them a pic.

I fill up an old roasting tin with the sand and bung it in the oven after I've cooked dinner - the residual heat dries it out quite quickly. MedusA
My Treacle makes a noise like a revving motorcycle when she is dust-bathing. Always makes me laugh.
