Cinnamon
I can tell you what,it won't be as bad as the pan of 8 Bantam Eggs I boiled dry the other week That stank the house out for days Best thing is to get a through draught - open windows front & back
Mrs Frugal
Oh dear, Buffs!! Try putting some saucers of bicarbonate of soda around the room as they'll hopefully absorb some of the smell. Open windows!! If you have problems with burned on veg in the pan, I've got a good tip with onions so just shout!

Mrs Frugal
Put some cold water in the pan with a couple of onions with their skins on chopped in quarters. Bring it to the boil gently and simmer for around 10 minutes (don't let it boil dry ) then leave it to sit for a few hours - preferably overnight then empty and wash up. The burnt on stuff should just rub away. If not, repeat the process and hopefully that will do the trick . Find me a house up for sale with a big garden and you're on, Buffs
buffie
I can see it now, 8PM tonight..... M 'honey I'm home', 'oh my favorite 'burnt onions'.. B Oh it's just a little something I threw together, a recipe of Kate's BBxx
Mrs Frugal
We have that recipe a lot in our house as I'm forever boiling pans dry .
Egluntyne
You both need a kitchen timer! A good way of getting burnt food off pans is a decent soak with some ecover biological washing powder. A very thorough rinse needed afterwards...as it is not "food grade". A soak with soda crystals is often enough too. Not on your alumnium pans though. Mrs Frugal
Yes, the biological washing powder's a good one too, Egluntine. I keep a box of Persil under the sink for soaking the oven trays in. Can't use it in the washing machine as I'm horribly allergic to it but it works wonders on burned on fat!!
Olly
... or my top tip is cover the burnt bit in ketchup or mayonnaise and leave for several hours. It sort of softens it up and it should clean off quite easily.
Lesley
I thought it was just the onion skins for burned pans Kate? - that's what i use anyway........ since I thought that was what you told me Chef's Candles from Lakeland would get rid of the burning smell Buffs. Blackrocksrock
Striking a match works in the loo for smells there but not sure if will work for the rest of the house - worth a try.
BERTIE MCSQUIRTY
pour cola into the pan leave for a couple of hours and then bring to the boil and simmer for about an hour - should be able to wipe it off after that. ketchup has a similar effect (but dont boil just leave it smeared on the pan)
buffie
Thanks the pan is looking not so bad after onion attack earlier. There is a slight eau de smoky pong but it's fading. Could be far worse. BBX
Cate in NZ
Wow, some great tips there for burnt on pans. I'll have to remember to file away for future refernce because I'm dreadful at allowing things to burn

Karen & co.
Things regularly get left in our Aga, and come out as carbon because you can't always smell it burn, so we play a game of 'What did that start off as?' baked potatoes are a favourite Karen x
buffie
My excuse was my mod duties, Mikey doesn't quite see it that way I told him on the phone earlier and just said 'don't say anything' I've lit a nice candle so it's improving.
