Chicken on a mission
Don't encourage him! Poor Martin came to this forum an inteligent, well mannered and well adjusted lad and we have already managed to corrupt him

Cinnamon
Thats what I can't understand Kaz - how can there be any papaers if he is not 100% pedigree ? Time will tell I guess. I am a great believer in fate - maybe the little girl was not meant to belong to us. There is another kitten out there somehwere with our name on her
Martin B
Sorry. I don't think Sarah should have to put with all of this malarky.

Hellcat
Cinnamon, can you get the deposit back? I hear what Kaz is saying but it all seems a bit 'keeping it in the family' closed off to me. If you hadnt said anything what could she have done? If they are cross bred they will not be pedigree standard anyway. I would go to another supplier. Having said that, we rescued out pointer from a breeder (she had been returned to her after 5 weeks) and we had to sign a contract to have her neutered. Kaz : 'for the good of the breed' hmmm. I'd question that. It seems to me that most 'pedigree' animals often have genetic problems, and defects, or have a particular trait, physical or otherwise, interbred so that they can often become a problem. Most (not all) breeders are in it for the money not for some altruistic care of the breed. That said, I do think there are some out there who care passionately about the welfare of the animals they breed, and that they want to keep rare breeds alive and well, and I go along with that. Sadly, I suspect that the Kennel Club and its feline equivalent are not that altruistic. Only my opinion of course.
Louise
If the mother has been with any old cat then they are nothing like pedigree and should mot be able to be mistaken as such. You would only get pure Bengal traits in 25% of future kittens IF you had a pure Bengal male to put her with which according to the breeding rules you can't do. Without knowing exactly which male she was with how can she have papers this woman sounds too big for her boots to be honest if they were pure bred I could see the point. What is there stopping the opposite happening ie a wandering pure Bengal male and the local female cat that is un-neutered
Richard and Jo
This woman is winding me up. She must give you your deposit back. If no mention was made of this when you verbally agreed to have the cats then she is in the wrong. I would not leave until you get your deposit back. How much is the one cat going to cost? Don't give her the money and leave with only one cat as it will be much harder to get back later. I would demand £50 off the male cat and for good measure put a brick through her car windscreen because that will cost her £50 to get fixed. (Don't do the brick thing - it just sounds good )
The Managing Director
this woman is outrageous, if she didn't mention any of this to start with she really shouldn't be able to keep your deposit, I think the words 'file' and 'small claims court' should be mentioned. It's a shame you didn't get the cats and just fail to produce proof of neutering isn't it, but then hindsight is a wonderful thing Good Luck with them anyway

Cinnamon
It must be fate........ I phoned another cat lady today, who is only down the road,& went to visit her litter to try to find another little girl. Well, they were ADORABLE - Bengal crossed with Burman,so they have lovely markings and nice long fluffy fur As soon as I saw one in particular I just knew she was "my kitten" & I have reserved her. So,we will have our boy who is gingery with deep brown spots,& the girl who is smokey grey with white stripes Now for the names

The Dogmother
That sounds like fate Cinnamon, the original girl wasn't meant to be. I think that the woman is being stinky, and it might be worth speaking to or emailing a Bangal cat society or similar to check what their guidelines are. I sort of understand what she is saying, but as the cats aren't pedigree, then there's no point at all to her arguement and she's just on a power trip. My bunny breeder asked us to undertake not to breed from our bunnies (which I didn't want to anyway) because she is very keen that rabbits are only bred under very careful conditions and that it is done sensibly. I totally respect her reasoning on this as I have seen too many people try to breed from their pets and get into all sorts of difficulties with babies dying and homes not being found. I'd love to see pix of the newbies when you get them, I have always wanted a bengal cat.
