I have an Eglu and a standard run and was concerned that my girls don't get enough grit as the run is on ground with bark chippings. I bought a pot of grit but have no idea where this should go. Should it be mixed with feed, put in a different feeder or just sprinkled on the ground :?:

We use a metal parrot bowl, which you can get from large pet stores. It comes with a hanging frame to hang it from cage bars, which you can use to hang it in the run.

I use one of these too, it seemed like the best option I could find. :)

We use a stainless steel bolt on bowl that bolts onto the side of the run, so you leave the holder bolted on the run and just take the bowl out to refill - something like this:

Just used this link to show you how it works - you can get them in pet shops.

Just to make it easy for you to search, they are officially called Coop Cups. They are widely available, most pet shops will have them and there are always loads on Ebay.

I tend to sprinkle both the grit and the oyster shell onto the run floor in amongst the aubiose so that they discover it when scratching the ground. My run is on concrete so rather an artificial setting. So, sprinkling on the run floor seems appropriate for my hens.

I add mixed grit and crushed baked egg shells to their pellets (the heavy pottery bowl I filled with grit kept getting knocked over).

When the pellets are nearly gone quite a bit of grit remains so I assume that they are getting all that they need. When I can let them free range, they will find grit in the soil as well, though not many oyster shells!
