It's almost ready

Recommended Posts

Only 5 days to go and the run is almost ready. OH is now as excited as me and has been working hard. Also heard him making little chicken songs up while he was working which made me laugh.

Got really excited yesterday when a nightfreight van came up the lane (thought it had turned up early) then was dissapointed when I realised he had just made a wrong turn.

Here are a couple of pics of the work in progress......sorry pinched some of your run ideas and also that lovely Seagrass colour.

Looks like its gonna be a fab run! Its huge!

Whats chooks are you getting?

Funny because it doesn't seem that big when you are stood in it (think it looks bigger in the picture).

It just seemed a good idea to use the base of the old greenhouse we found in the garden when we moved in as it makes it a bit more fox proof.

I think we are getting some of the rarer breed type as there are only the two of us so we don't really need loads of eggs.

I think they maybe Marsh daisy, Silver dorking, Old English phesant but it really depends what is available next week when we go and visit.

How many of the bigger type can I get in a cube? I was only thinking of 4 or 6. (have a thing about not liking odd numbers).

Wow, that's going to be fantastic ! I think 6 is a good number - I would wouldn't I ! I would guess the old breeds aren't such prolific layers as the hybrids, so 6 will allow for that , plus you may have one or two who decide they have better things to do than lay eggs ( like my Elsie ! )

Will definitely want to see photos when you have them :)

Looks great :D but how come in the first pic theres no high wall on the left :?

There is only a high wall on one side because we live on a steep hill, so our garden is a series of 8 terraces and the run spans one of the smaller ones.

Runs now finished, will post some pictures later as its lovely sunshine outside so we are off to the boat show for the day. Would love to buy some of the things you see there but Im sick whenever I get on a boat, going to keep my eye open for a new canoe though as there is a great slalom course on the river up the road from us.
