Imo
Has anyone had it before? My throat really really hurts, it's a different type of hurting to when you have a cold - it's actually as if the throat muscles and everything hurt. And I have a slight temperature.... My parents have been away on holiday and will be back later so I know I'll get some advice and looking after when they get home, but in the meantime, does anyone think that this sounds like it could be tonsillitis? if it persists, I'll go to the Dr
xChicken04x
Poor you . I've had tonsillitis loads of times one of my main symptoms was being boiling hot one minute but freezing cold the next. I haven't had it for ages though, so don't remember that well, but just remember the awful change in temperature. Get better soon. xx
Cooks
yes we are a tonsillitis family my son had it 8 times in one year and they booked him to have them out then the week before he got them again It does dound like you have an infection of this type, and the temperature is another indicator, have you looked at the back of your throat? (I know this sounds awfull) With tonsillitis you normally get white lumps on your tonsils well we all do I would advise going to the docs if you feel that bad. You can try gargling withan antiseptic mouthwash that sometimes helps. Hope you feel better soon.
Lesley
I had years of tonsillitis and then had them removed in my mid twenties. you can get an anaesthetic spray which will help with the pain as well - useful if you've still got it next week when you have exams...... Sheilaz
Also completely resting & drinking plenty will help your body fight off whatever it is. Hope you feel better soon. xx
Egluntyne
Take some paracetemol or ibruprofen for the pain and fever too. I hope you feel better soon Imo. There are a lot of nasty bugs around at the mo.
Christian
Sorry to hear you are feeling rough Imo. I get tonsilitis every few months and it really is horrible. Luckily, I only get the throat symptoms. The best advice I can give is to drink lots of warm tea, water or squash. Try Merocaine from the chemists as it numbs everything! Not the best tasting throat sweets but they do the job! Funny you should mention this now (well not really) but my throat starting hurting yesterday!
Seagazer
Yes you must keep drinking, lots and lots of fluids. It seems to be going round a lot at the moment - thankfully not at our house - yet! DH and I usually have competitions to see who has it the worst. Of course he always has it much worse than me Our doctors never give out antibiotics for tons. they think its better to let your body fight it. Not at all nice, paracetamol etc and fluid and rest. Hope you feel better soon
Helly Welly
All the advice above is excellent so i won't add to it. Just say, hope you feel better soon, maybe a bit of resting in the sun tomorrow will help
redhotchick
Gargle with salt water. It's very good for sore throats. A level teaspoon dissolved in half a cup of hot water and topped up with cold. Otherwise, as already mentioned, rest, fluids and paracetemol. Google "quinsy" images. If it feels really sore you might have Quinsy. Guest
I had septic tonsilitis once. Started with a raging sore throat and a temperature but then I started with really bad D&V and assume I had some sort of stomach bug. I lefft it for 3 days hoping it would go away but it just got worse and I couldn't keep anything down, not even water. Had to call the doc in the end and she showed me my tonsils in a mirror, they were all swollen and yellow stuff was oozing out of them. The yellow stuff was what was making me ill. It was without doubt, the worst illness I have ever had, it was very similar to that winter vomiting thing but worse and with a sore throat. Go and look in a mirror and see if your tonsils are inflamed and if they are, it will be tonsilitis and the sooner you see a doc the better, trust me!!!! They don't remove tonsils any more, they'll just give you some antibiotics to get rid of it. Hope you feel better soon, it's a rotten thing to have
Cooks
they will remove tonsils but you bascially have to have rmany many bouts of tonsillitis for them to even consider it. My friends child was on the nhs waiting list recently, but in the end she paid privately to get them done quicker, I think it was a few thousand, but she says it's money well spent. My son didn't wait any longer than about 6 months from start to finish on the nhs, but then he did have so bad tonsils that they were constantly big and causing him to have problems. Since having them removed his asthma has cleared aswell. yes keep taking the fluids even if you just cant bear the thought of swollowing them down, it really will help you.
