4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Ordered some of this a couple of weeks ago and it has finally arrived this morning.....my god it stinks!!!

 

Do i just add this to the girls food? Will they be put off by it's awful pong?

I would have thought it would make their poo smell more vile, not better, but hey ho will give it a go!!

I would have said the same about garlic powder - but who knows what magic goes on inside a chickens guts

 

oh and as for dosage - sorry cant help as I dont use the stuff - dont you know it smells vile???

Me too, I love the smell. I add a tablespoon to a litre of pellets.

Same here, I love the smell and it reminds me of my rabbit and guinea pig I had as a child and feeding them bran and mash potato in Winter.

As for amount to feed, I just put a handful in the grub and mix in with the pellets.

I hadn't noticed that the bokashi smelt at all I chuck a handful in with the girls feed every couple of days. Am I giving them too much?

It's good from a smell point of view, but also helps to keep their digestive systems in trim, so less smelly squits!

I put quite a lot in with my pellets, a good handful or 2, as the Girls love it. If I drop some on the floor they hoover it up.

I'm with you 'mummy-hen', I can't stand the smell . Sorry to be so vivid but it smells like 'baby sick' to me.

 

I first bought mine from Omlet but it didn't last two seconds so I'm now bought a couple of bigs bags from http://www.wigglywigglers.co.uk/ (which has corn mixed in) and it doesn't smell half as bad.

 

My girls go mad for the stuff so I give them about 4 handfuls a day as treats and yes you will notice the difference, it definitely works.

The smell reminds me of my days as a horse mad girl!

 

I put a generous handful in the grub with their mash every time I fill it and it has cleared up Lily's squitty poos as well as removing any trace of chicken odour in the garden and the Eglu - even in the recent hot spell. I use garlic as well.

 

It's not cheap but I think I'll stick with it

I don't mind the smell either . I add a few good scoops to the box I keep the pellets in.

 

I should be using it in my bokashi bin too but I've had two bins fail completely and have lost heart .

I bung a handful in every now and then, and always put a good shake in the 'worm bin' that I keep inside for all their bits that I give them at the end of the week.

 

Don't get rid of yours until you've seen mine at the weekend Egluntine.

 

I got mine on the cheap from Twiglet and it's been a source of wonderment ever since - turning out lovely rich compost and worm wee. OK, so I nearly froze them a couple of times when I forgot to lag it, but it's still going strong.
