Egluntyne
No, not at all. I have never bought an incubator, and so couldn't answer your question. I imagine many others are the same. I'm sure that as soon as one of the few who have hatched with an incubator log on, they will give you an answer.
bronze
I bought my first on ebay and my second was given to me by a friend.
Happybunny
I suppose it depends what size you want. I've got an Octogon 10 (takes 10 eggs) and I bought in from the Insectlore catalogue because they do a whole starter kit.
The Dogmother
It all depends on what you're hatching and how many eggs you want to incubate Syed. What is it this time?

The Dogmother
Syed, as a matter of interest, I'm dying to know what your latest hatching project is... do you have a farm? Do tell....
JamesH
Don't be so mean, if this lady can hatch an emu, syed can hatch a rhea! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/sussex/7436852.stm
The Dogmother
Isn't it cute? My poultry vet is an avian expert - he breeds emus and rheas. I understand that they need special treatment and can't be raised like we do with chicks. We're not being mean James, just joshing with Syed; he seems to be hatching a menagerie. I'm dying to know what's next....
JamesH
It does look great tearing around her living room. She's brave with that carpet though! I hope it's on bokashi!
Egluntyne
Whatever is being hatched, please, please make sure that appropriate brooding arrangements are in place well before the chicks are due to hatch. There is masses of info easily obtained by *googling*, and excellent advice available here, if it is sought in time. There is little point saying "help...urgent, my pteradactyl is pipping, what should I do next" at 11pm on a Sunday evening. Plan ahead and be sure that you have pre-arranged homes for any males.
